Overview: 

Defence Infrastructure Organisation (Nepal) (DIO (N)) British Gurkhas Pokhara has 26 civilian staff who provide technical/engineering support to Pokhara. DIO (N) is to deliver repairs, maintenance, minor new works and infrastructure projects on the British Gurkhas Nepal estates in order to meet its operational requirements and provide all personal and dependents with a living environment commensurate with that found in the UK, where we believe in 6 important values that underpin our objectives and mission – safety first, collaboration, integrity, agility, accountability and enthusiasm.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carry out all the necessary installation, testing, inspection, repair and maintenance of the electrical installations including house and industrial electrical wiring. 
  • Interpret electrical drawings and produce the required task from these documents. 
  • Safely and efficiently operate small electrical portable power tools and static bench power tools.  
  • Carry out preventive planned maintenance (PPM) of electrical equipment, distribution systems, facilities and buildings including updating the PPM logbooks. 
  • Decide methods of repair and materials needed for the task, the serviceability of equipment, to assist decision-making, usually those made by Line Manager relating to operational or process matters considering Health and Safety aspect and ensuring errors are likely to result in a waste of resources, delays in the delivery of products or services, and a reduction in quality standards affecting schedules and output mainly in own work area. Give advice and recommendations when equipment is beyond economic repair.  
  • Apply level of physical effort and dexterity dependent upon the type of job.  
  • Work in workshops, noisy generator house, accommodation quarters, commercial buildings and hot and humid kitchens.  
  • Quality diagnostic work and/or remedial work involving the tracing of faults/malfunctions in complex equipment in water treatment production including bore hole, transfer, dosing and distribution, electricity generators and power control panel and minor repairs on boiler and CCTV. 
  • Support line management in their tasks, including deputising for them when required. 
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management. 

Success Profile:

The candidates should have at least the following qualification/criteria: 

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering (full three years course) or equivalent from reputed institution. 
  • Minimum of 2 years as an electrician working with reputed organisation or have similar experience up to the equivalent standard.   
  • Fair command of written and spoken English and Nepali. 
  • Able to work at height.  

The successful candidates will be tested by a written and practical test to establish their competence.

Eligibility: 

Internal candidates: SZ1/SZ2 for promotion and SZ3/ E1 for level transfer.  

External candidates: Nepali Citizen between 18 to 58 years

  • Salary 73,146.00 NPR per month, weekly working hours - 40hrs (Full Time, Permanent).
