Position Summary
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer (Power System Studies) who has good experience in power system analysis for substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks. In this role, you will work on load flow studies, short circuit analysis, arc-flash studies, protection coordination, EMT studies and system modeling. You will review drawings, prepare reports, guide junior engineers, and work with multi-disciplinary teams.
You will collaborate directly with U.S.-based engineers and help deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant power system designs.
The successful candidate's role and compensation will be commensurate with their experience and qualifications, with opportunities for Lead or Senior positions for the candidates with extensive, relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc-flash, and protection coordination, insulation coordination, EMT studies, stability analysis and interconnection studies.
- Build and maintain power system models using ETAP, PSCAD, PSSE, or similar software for various studies.
- Prepare clear and accurate technical reports that follow U.S. industry standards and utility requirements.
- Review protection settings, relay coordination, and one-line diagrams.
- Support the design of substations by working with Structural, Civil, and Protection & Control teams.
- Review vendor documents, equipment data sheets, and relay settings from manufacturers.
- Check drawings in AutoCAD or similar tools, including one-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Provide technical support during construction, including answering RFIs and reviewing site photos.
- Manage multiple tasks, maintain schedules, and keep project documents organized.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or Power Engineering.
- At least 2 years of experience in power system studies or utility engineering.
- Good knowledge of software like ETAP, PSCAD, PSSE, or similar tools.
- Understanding of power system protection, relays, and substation equipment.
- Experience working with U.S. standards such as IEEE, NEC, NESC, or utility guidelines.
- Strong skills in Excel and ability to read technical drawings.
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.
- Strong organization and time-management abilities.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Master’s degree in Power Systems or Power Electronics.
- Experience working on U.S. substation, transmission, or distribution projects.
- Knowledge of advanced tools like PSCAD, ASPEN, or BIM 360.
- Proficient in Python or other programming languages
- Experience reviewing relay settings or protection schemes.
- Experience of NERC PRC or MOD studies
- Familiarity with U.S. utility design standards.
