PROJECT DESCRIPTION

USAID Trade and Competitiveness Activity is a five-year project to increase Nepali private sector participation in targeted global value chains by making them competitive, resilient, and sustainable. The Activity will chart a new growth path for private companies by supporting them to capitalize on global opportunities – targeting quality and high value exports (of products and services). It aims to foster sustainable growth, in selected value chains, by incentivizing actors (both private and public) through investments, innovations, employment, and a business enabling environment to expand their integration into the global market. The Activity is working to achieve the goal through the following objectives:

  • To increase access to market-based financial and non-financial services; 
  • To increase productivity in sectors with high growth and employment potential; and 
  • To improve the investment climate and business enabling environment, for targeted sectors.

We are seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Driver to be based in Kathmandu, Nepal, for a one-year contract with option of renewal in subsequent years.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Driver will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safe operations of office vehicles, for the transportation of project staff, consultants and/or counterparts. Additionally, s/he will be responsible for keeping the vehicles up to date with daily cleaning, maintenance, inspections, and any other requirements. All duties will be carried out as per the policies and procedures of USAID Trade and Competitiveness.

The driver will report to the Procurement and Administration Officer (PAO). This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities: 

  • Safely operate vehicles to transport project employees, documents, and goods to and from designated locations.
  • Maintain vehicles including regular check-ups, cleanings, minor repair, and fuelling.
  • Always ensuring adherence to traffic laws and USAID Trade and Competitiveness policies/manuals.
  • Ensure unauthorized passengers are not allowed to travel in the project vehicle.
  • Ensure that all passengers, staff and others, wear seatbelts always when the vehicle is in motion.
  • Make sure adequate security checks (for protests/ demonstrations) are done before movements to any location.
  • Maintaining accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities and prepare monthly fuel consumption and maintenance report to the supervisor.
  • Drive with care and within safe speed limits complying with current security regulations and protocol. 
  • Ensure compliance with all USAID Trade and Competitiveness Vehicle Operations Manual/Policy and local driving laws and regulations.
  • Always keep & maintain all necessary vehicle documents in vehicle, like, Blue Book with valid renewal, insurance document, mobile phone, pollution sticker with timely renewal, etc.
  • Report any maintenance issues & needs to supervisor at the earliest possible time.
  • Ensure to report to the supervisor before and after each task is completed.
  • Report immediately to supervisor if any mishaps or incidents occur.
  • Arrange for safe and secured parking for vehicle (when not parked on office premises).
  • Ensure all vehicle equipment’s i.e., tools, first aid kits, spare tires, fire extinguishers are safe and in usable condition.
  • Provide the support to the project with miscellaneous tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completed School Leaving Certificate or Secondary Education Examination (SEE)
  • Valid 2W/4W vehicles Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with excellent driving skills, USAID or other donor funded projects experience is desirable.
  • Basic technical knowledge of general repair and maintenance of vehicles is desirable.
  • Well knowledge of local traffic rules and regulations.
  • Flexibility to fit into often changing priorities.
  • Responsible, trustworthy, and punctual.
  • Able to interact both Nepali and English.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of the project.
