Community Health Mobilizer (CHM)

Forum for Awareness and Youth Activity (FAYA Nepal), with financial and technical support from AMDA MINDS is implementing the Awareness, Screening and Health Action for Breast and Cervical Cancer (ASHA) Project in Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Godawari Municipality and Kailari Rural Municipality of Kailali District. The project aims to reduce breast and cervical cancer morbidity and mortality by strengthening screening services, improving diagnostic and referral systems, and increasing awareness among women, families, and communities. Community Health Mobilizers are frontline field staff responsible for promoting health-seeking behaviour, increasing participation in cancer screening services, strengthening referral linkages, and supporting community-based awareness activities.

FAYA Nepal invites applications from qualified and motivated Nepali citizens for the position of Community Health Mobilizer (CHM).

Reports to: Project Officer/Manager 

Contract Duration: One year (renewable based on project requirement and performance)

Duties and Responsibilities:

-        Plan and implement community awareness and behaviour change activities on breast and cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and available screening services.

-        Mobilize eligible women to participate in primary screening services and community screening camps.

-        Conduct awareness sessions targeting women, adolescents, community groups, Health Mothers' Groups (HMGs), schools and other local stakeholders.

-        Facilitate community dialogue sessions, orientations, and advocacy meetings with local leaders and stakeholders, and support awareness campaigns and national/international health day celebrations.

-        Disseminate Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials developed by the project.

-        Support the organization of basic and refresher training for Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) and provide regular follow-up and supportive supervision during community awareness activities.

-        Support FCHVs in identifying eligible women for screening and in maintaining community-level beneficiary records.

-        Strengthen coordination between FCHV and health facilities for referral, follow-up services, and support referral linkages between health facilities and the Diagnostic Centre.

-        Support health facilities in organizing mobile breast and cervical cancer screening camps, including participant registration, logistics arrangements, and documentation.

-        Promote appropriate referral of suspected cases and follow up with referred clients to encourage completion of diagnostic and treatment services.

-        Maintain close coordination with municipal health sections, health facilities, the diagnostic center, local governments, schools, community-based organizations, health mothers' groups, and other stakeholders, and participate in municipal and community-level coordination meetings as assigned.

-        Maintain accurate records of community awareness sessions, participant attendance, screening mobilization, referrals, and follow-up activities.

-        Collect, compile, and submit timely and accurate weekly, monthly, and activity reports to the Project Officer, ensuring data quality and proper documentation.

-        Support in documenting case/success stories, best practices, lessons learned and photographs, and support monitoring, supervision visits, donor visits and evaluations.

-        Promote Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GESI) by ensuring equitable participation of women from marginalized, disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in all project interventions.

-        Maintain confidentiality of beneficiary information and comply with FAYA Nepal's Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, and all organizational policies and procedures.

-        Perform any other project-related duties assigned by the Project Officer or Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

-        CMA, ANM, or H.A./Staff Nurse from a recognized institution, with respective council registration.

-        Experience working with local governments, health facilities, Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs), Health mothers groups and community groups.

-        Experience in community mobilization, awareness campaigns, health education sessions, or outreach activities.

-        Excellent verbal communication skills in Nepali; knowledge of the local language and local residents of the respective municipality is preferred.

-        Negotiation skills to mobilize local resources and maintain coordination with FCHVs, the Health Mothers Group, local health facilities, community leaders, and local authorities.

Other Skills:

        Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, particularly in engaging women on reproductive health topics.

-        Willingness and ability to work under pressure and within a limited timeframe.

-        Good documentation and reporting skills, with the ability to maintain accurate community-level records.

        Basic computer knowledge and skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

-        Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned communities/wards/municipality.  

-        Two-wheeler driving skill/licence is preferred
