This position will be responsible for providing support and coaching to WVIN’s NGO Partners and ensure all NGO Partners adhere required compliances, which includes payment and disbursements; procurement review; monitoring and reporting as per tools with at least 60% visit to the field/Project locations. To ensure stewardship, accountability and transparency in the Finance and SCM sectors through active resourcing and empowerment of PNGOs.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conceptualization, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of WVI Nepal’s comprehensive communications strategy, provide strategic advice to senior leadership on mitigating organizational reputational risks ensuring supporter and staff engagement, build networks and partnerships for increased visibility
  • Build the reputation and influence of WVI Nepal through mainstream and social media to mobilize public for social and policy change, develop and promote evidence-based content for resource generation and strategic priorities, improve staff engagement through internal communications that mobilize staff for strategy execution and impact to provide strategic leadership to WV’s communications across Nepal.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of an integrated communications strategy that seeks to meet local and Partnership communications needs of WV, identifying key resources, systems and processes required for success.  
  • Provide strategic support to develop and implement External Engagement Strategy 
  • Develop media strategy, communication policies and guidelines, branding and Visibility plans 
  • Engage with senior leadership in strategic communications planning and processes that support WVI NEPAL objectives.  
  • Ensure adherence to policies, guidelines and standards relating to field communications business. 
  • Contribute as a member of Campaign Management Team  
  • Contribute as a Crisis Management Team member  
  • Leads the development and production of high quality materials for identifying communication activities such as annual reports, factsheet, capacity statements, Message House, flagship publications, press releases, feature articles and audio-visual materials, as required
  • Review of all communication Materials of WVI to ensure brand management visibility across all stakeholders including Partner NGOs
  • Lead cross functional, departmental and Field office engagements for efficient communication functions across WVI Nepal 
  • Build and manage a high-performance communications function that is structured, focused and staffed for productive and quality work. 
  • Provide leadership to the Communication Unit and ensure the professional development of individual staff and occasional volunteers, including coaching and motivating through ongoing supervision, appraisal, learning and development. 
  • Oversee the planning and management of the communications department budget and resources. 
  • Communications plan in place for integrating global and national initiatives, priorities and campaigns for brand alignment, consistent messaging and disseminating these elements in a locally-appropriate way.
  • Partner with Advocacy on campaigns and public efforts which seek to highlight, raise awareness and influence change on issues related to child wellbeing in Nepal.  
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the capacity of partners through appropriate advocacy and communication training, access to information, and through knowledge sharing.
  • Develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with other like-minded INGOs to collectively promote/respond to issues on international development, emergency response and advocacy for the well-being of children and communities in Nepal
  • Develop effective relationships and partnerships with media for organizational positioning and advocacy messaging at the national and local level 
  • Develop the partnership with media, private sectors, peer and CSO to position WVI NEPAL as an expert voice 
  • Ensure the positive branding and visibility of WVI at all levels including stakeholders and through
  • Coordinate with Asia Pacific Region and targeted SOs to position Nepal’s issues, especially as they relate to child wellbeing and programmatic impact in key media.
  • Identify, train and position key media spokespeople including sector specialists and senior leaders. 
  • Develop a crisis management plan for implementation if/as needed to protect the reputation of Nepal from actual or potential media crises including risk mapping and escalation of issue as per Partnership protocols.
  • Co-ordinate media and communications response in the event of a disaster in accordance with Disaster Communications Standards, assuring “first mover advantage” for WV.
  • Develop high-quality evidence resources and create opportunities for strategic utilizations
  • Support leadership on internal communications needs and strategy execution for organizational effectiveness.
  • Guide internal messages and content to ensure cross-entity alignment and focus on strategic priorities and connection to partnership wide goals and objectives.

Requirements Include:

Required Professional Experience

  • At least five years professional experience in communications or media relations
  • Proven English and Nepali language fluency (written and verbal) and 
  • Excellent writing skills, with photographic and/or video skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think and manage strategically, plan and meet deadlines.
  • An energetic, analytical, proactive and self-starting approach to projects that involve significant responsibility
  • Ability and proven experience to produce high quality reports, articles, press release and other print contents
  • General experience in project management, with specific experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports, etc.
  • Experience working in a field context, including conducting interviews and taking photos.
  • Knowledge and skills in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication

Required Education, training, license, registration and certification

  • Master’s degree in mass communications/ journalism, social science or equivalent Knowledge of advocacy, development and relief work

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Understanding of children’s issues in Nepal
  • Experience in people and performance management
  • Understanding of media and political landscape in Nepal
  • Leading and Supervising, Delivering Results, Creating and Innovating
  • Ability to work in tight deadlines and pressure
  • Problem Solving Skills
  • Excellent Editing and proof-reading skills both in Nepali and English
  • Strong editorial background and technical style guides
  • Travel and/or Work Environment - 25% Field Travel
