Rural Oriented Youth Movement-Nepal (ROYM-Nepal) is a non-profit making non-governmental national level organization established in 2009 which envisions a socio-economically empowered society with equality and social justice through its community based collective campaign to create an environment where marginalized groups can raise their voices for economic, cultural and social rights challenging the structural discrimination. It aims at reducing poverty through skill transformation and youth engagement. ROYM-Nepal supports the country in achieving the long-term Sustainable Development Goals on human rights, health, education, gender equality, water, sanitation, environment, social protection, justice and impact of climate change. In more than a decade of its working experience, ROYM-Nepal has been successfully carrying out different community-based interventions and socio-economic programs under WASH, skill promotion, self and gainful-employment, women health, and socio-economic empowerment. ROYM-Nepal is currently looking for the application from qualified candidates for the following position:
Position: Communication Officer
Location: Kathmandu with frequent travel to program districts

Position Description
Under the guidance and direct supervision of Sr. Program Coordinator the Communication Officer will develop and implement the communication and Knowledge Management of all the projects. S/he will be responsible for day-to-day communication activities including but not limited to social media activities, helping with reports, drafting success stories, newsletters, and other communication materials. S/he will work closely with field teams, other departments, and partners to support the communication and branding needs. Communication Officer is a regular position with annual review/renew to work for different programs and movement.
The candidate should have a Bachelor’s Degree in mass media, media study, journalism and mass communication or related discipline with good knowledge and experience in designing publication materials, knowledge products and developing infographics and 3 years of working experience in communication and development. The candidate should have knowledge of local and regional context of human rights and ability to write and communicate effectively in both Nepali and English languages.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take lead role for knowledge management and communication of the organization.
- Take a lead to create and implement overall communication rules, protocols, strategy and a yearly communication and knowledge management work plan.
- Collaborate with the project team to implement an effective communications channel in our program areas based on our target audience.
- Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual and quarterly reports, speeches and other materials that communicates the organization’s activities, products and/or services.
- Act as the main point of contact for the media, respond to inquiries, arrange interviews, and cultivate relationships with media professionals.
- Implement communication and branding strategies to improve the organization's public image and brand awareness.
- Use social media platforms appropriately to enhance organization’s visibility.
- Generate content for the organization’s website and other social media platforms and handles all related works to update these platforms.
- Maintain records of media coverage and generate analytics.
- Video development, editing and dissemination. Capacitate the team for pictures, video clips collection, visual reporting and dissemination.
- Develop the necessary IEC materials, case studies, success stories of right holders, outputs, results, outcomes and impacts of organization’s interventions.
- Any other responsibility as required and assigned.
Requirements:
Education and Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree in mass communication, media study, journalism, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience in communication sector.
Essential Skills
- Strong writing and editing skills: Produce clear, concise, and compelling content via written, audio and visual means for various audiences and platforms.
- Strategic thinking: Develop creative and effective communication plans.
- Interpersonal and public relations: Build and maintain positive relationships with media, stakeholders, and the public.
- Digital proficiency: Expertise in managing social media, digital content, and communication analytics. Proficient in handling different related softwares or applications of communication materials.
- Time management: Fulfill communication and development expectation of multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Analytical skills: Track and interpret data from campaigns and programs.
