WWF Nepal, the global conservation organization leading international efforts for a living planet, calls for following proposal:

Call for Research Proposals: Ecology of Smooth- Coated Otter

WWF aims to conserve smooth-coated otter (SCO) through improving communities’ livelihood and building institutional capacity. SCO is an indicator species for freshwater ecosystems and plays a vital role in ecosystem balance as the top predator. They are sensitive to habitat destruction and water pollution. Being found in one of the world’s most human dominated and economically poor landscapes, their ecological requirements often conflict with development activities, food and water security. 

In absence of conservation action plan, this species has been least prioritized and one of the little known (least explored) wildlife in Nepal. Involving researchers/ university graduates in conducting and disseminating research about the ecology and habitat preferences of otters will contribute significantly to the formulation of a conservation action plan for the SCO. WWF Nepal invites research proposals on the ecology of smooth coated otters which contributes towards science-based evidence that supports to prepare National level smooth-coated otter conservation action plan. 

Interested researchers/ university graduates are requested to submit proposals electronically to

proposals-freshwater@wwfnepal.org with “Otter Ecology” as the subject line. The proposal must be submitted within 5:00 pm Nepal Standard Time on 1st September 2024. Only selected applicants for further consideration will be contacted. Telephone inquiries are not entertained.
