EcoHimal Nepal is a national Non-Government Organization founded in 2009, with the aim of achieving Sustainable Development through Community Empowerment in rural mountain areas.  It aims to enhance the livelihood of unreached and marginalized communities through grassroots initiatives and in-depth involvement, without disturbing local ecology and social and cultural structure. “Participation - Ownership - Sustainability” is the main theme of the organization.

EcoHimal is seeking a dynamic an Agro-Forestry Officer and two Agriculture Junior Technical Assistant (JTAs) as follows:

1. Agro-Forestry Officer 

Location:  EcoHimal Project area (Kalikot & Achham) 

Expected Start Date: 20th May, 2024

Duration of the Contract: Three Year, with possibility of extension

Probation Period: 6 months

Salary: A competitive NGO salary will be offered

The position is an employee who plans, coordinates, and oversees subordinate employees for agro-forestry projects for the organizational benefits. It is believed that she/he has excellent Leadership skills, Organizational skills, Administrative and clerical skills, Interpersonal skills, Self-motivation, Adaptability, Close attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead, Ability to work under pressure, including excellent written and verbal communication

Responsibilities / Job Description: 

The position is accountable for planning and allocating resources, preparing budgets, monitoring progress, and keeping senior management and stakeholders informed throughout the project lifecycle. All of this takes place within the framework of achieving a projects and organization’s goals and vision.

  • Develop strategic plan and programme implementation strategies 
  • Represent different projects at local, district and national level 
  • Planning, (overall planning, annual and periodic), lead implementation and monitoring of different projects 
  • Prepare action plans and delivery of its activities in accordance with the goal and objectives.
  • Plan and conduct training, orientations, different events and community mobilization in line with the implementation plans, logical frameworks and project documents.  
  • Ensure timely delivery of different project activities, within scope and budget of the projects.
  • Develop new initiatives and innovations to support effective implementation. 
  • Create effective and efficient solutions and alternatives for better performance.
  • Lead, guide, motivate, supervise and manage subordinate staff members encouraging good performance and values.
  • Plan, allocate resources and inputs to ensure better performance of each staff member as per their responsibilities. 
  • Ensure projects activities function within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local government, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Carry out research and development as per need of different projects.
  • Anticipate the mission and vision of the organization through different project impacts.
  • Responsibilities may go beyond the scope of job description for any tasks as assigned by senior management in mutual consent.

Qualification: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, minimum 2 years of work experience. Computer skills including use of office applications.

2. Junior Technical Assistant (JTAs) 

Location:  Kavreplanchowk and other EcoHimal's project areas  

Expected Start Date: 20th May, 2024

Duration of the Contract: Three Year, with possibility of extension

Probation Period: 6 months

Salary: A competitive NGO salary will be offered

Responsibilities / Job Description: 

  • Assist programme officer/Project manager to implement the project;
  • co-operation and coordination with local government;
  • create and update a profile of farmers (individual farmers);
  • facilitate in establishment and management of various nurseries (vegetables, forest, tree crops, spices);
  • conservation of  environment, wild plants, tree crops through farmers field school approach
  • identify a special crops/spice in a special village and create a pocket area enabling them to prepare adaptation plan
  • establish module school agro-forestry Garden
  • train local farmers on bio-intensive farming, productions and green consumption
  • facilitate in demonstration/dissemination blocks establishment; 
  • facilitate  to establish/manage satellite nurseries; 
  • deliver service to local farmers: training, education and extension on n multi-layer cropping, organic farming, soil regeneration and conservation practices
  • support to supply of seeds/seedlings for tree crops promotion 
  • coordination with local governments, concerned line agencies for massive plantation
  • coordinate with the secondary school, training to students once month 
  • assist in training to farmers on climate smart agriculture
  • coordinate with different stakeholders, line agencies and nurseries for plant, seeds and know how transfer;
  • any other tasks as assigned by the programme officer and the programme manager

Qualification: JTA in agriculture with 3 years of work experience. Preferable JT.
