POSITION TITLE: VDC Coordinator/Leveraging
LOCATION: Districts of West, Mid-West and Far-West Development Region of Nepal
GROUP/UNIT: Enterprise and Agriculture
REPORTS TO: District Coordinator (DC) and Agriculture Program Officer (APO)
PROJECT SUMMARY:
The USAID funded Knowledge-based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition (KISAN) Project aims to sustainably reduce poverty and hunger in Nepal by achieving inclusive growth in the agriculture sector and increasing the income of farm families. USAID/Nepal will implement the project over a five-year period in 20 districts of western, mid-western and far-western region of Nepal: Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Doti, Achham, Kailali, Dailekh, Surkhet, Bardiya, Banke, Rukum, Jajarkot, Salyan, Rolpa, Dang, Pyuthan, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu and Palpa.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The VDC Coordinator/Leveraging will carry out following responsibilities with close cooperation and guidance of DC.
1. Will meet VDC secretary of the prioritized VDCs of the District.
2. Share with VDCs the objectives, modality of implementation of priority Agriculture and Nutrition programs of KISAN with the VDCs.
3. Help incorporate KISAN Programs in the Programs of the VDCs to be submitted to the District Development Council Programs.
4. Explore common priority programs of the KISAN Project (Agriculture and Nutrition) and the VDCs.
5. Leverage fund to KISAN programs from the VDC grant fund.
6. Provide help in implementation of the common priority programs of the KISAN Project and the VDCs being implemented by KISAN beneficiaries (farmers, service providers, MPC etc).
7. Help in accessing technical back stopping from KISAN to the priority agricultural, Nutrition programs in the VDC on need basis.
8. Help KISAN team in identifying potential beneficiaries and group formation for KISAN intervention.
9. Help to identify Leader Farmers who can be used as Leader farmer/change agent in the KISAN program and strengthen change agents agro-vets, input suppliers and Local Service/Resource Providers/Persons.
10.Assist in organizing KISAN training and meetings etc in the VDC as needed;
11.Help monitor progress of the ongoing program in the VDC in coordination with other KISAN field team.
12.Help increase in sales volume and value of High Value Crops (HVC) produced in the project area.
13.Assist MPC members in receiving and disseminate the agri-price information received from the different source as per the need of the MPCs and traders in particular.
14.Carry out other assignments given by supervisor to attain project agriculture/marketing targets.
QUALIFICATIONS
Intermediate in Agriculture; preferably Bachelor’s degree; Knowledge of agricultural technologies and relevant experiences will be additional points; Experience of the relevant field and local language knowledge will also be plus points; Motor cycle driving license holder will have an additional advantage.
