Regional Financial Controller

Overall purpose of position: To manage and report on the regional financial performance of the South Asia office and the regional programme and its projects. To support the UK head office and South Asia regional teams in all financial aspects relating to regional projects.

Renewable World is a not-for-profit organization seeking to tackle poverty through renewable energy. We focus on enabling vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in developing countries to access affordable, reliable, renewable energy to provide opportunities for increased income and improved health and education facilities. 

This post is funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund. The post holder will support the management and/or implementation of our upcoming solar water pumping for sustainable livelihoods project in Nepal funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

We are looking for a qualified accountant with experience of project accounting and a keen eye for detail to join our South Asia team. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer (UK) and Global Programme Manager (South Asia/UK), and will work closely with our South Asia team and implementing partners. You will be responsible for all regional financial management including  maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions following Renewable World’s financial policy and guidelines, managing donor financial reporting, including income, debt and deferred income accurately and timely in accordance with each donors requirements and prepare regional project financial reporting on a monthly basis at project and implementing partner level.

Location: Kathmandu & in-country travel in Nepal. One annual trip to UK or East Africa

Contract: 2 years fixed term contract (renewable on performance), starting 1st April 2015

Salary: Nrs 800,000 – Nrs 1,000,000 Per Annum (Depending on candidate), plus benefits

Essential Requirements: Qualified accountant (e.g. one of: ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA) with minimum bachelors degree level in relevant discipline. Strong financial analytical and problem solving skills. Functional knowledge of financial accounting systems (including QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Understanding of project accounting. Must be flexible, adaptable, and quick to learn in our fast paced dynamic environment (arising out of the new projects and relationships). Keen attention to accounting detail and a commitment to continuous improvement. Ability to prioritise and deliver results on time to meet strict deadlines. Effective communicator as demonstrated on financial and narrative reporting, and verbal skills. Excellent written and verbal English is a must.

Right to work in Nepal (Nepali citizen or SARC Countries) essential. 

Desirable competency and experience requirements: Experience of donor fund (grant) accounting, relevant international NGO and major donor (e.g. EU/DFID/USAID) experience.
