Organization Description

Build Change designs disaster-resistant houses and schools, trains homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them, works with governments to develop and implement building standards, partners with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs, and facilitates access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs. Build Change started its work in Aceh, Indonesia after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami and has since expanded to include programs in China, Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nepal, and the Philippines. Build Change has trained more than 23,000 people on earthquake-resistant design and construction techniques, created more than 11,000 jobs and provided technical assistance for more than 47,000 safer buildings, impacting an estimated 236,875 people.

Responsibilities:

The Project Manager shall be responsible for the performance, as well as procurement personnel, reporting, and other management related requirements.  Furthermore, the Project Manager will provide leadership, management, and supervision of the entire team.  S/he, with the assistance of other key personnel, will be responsible for administering the contract in full compliance with all applicable Build Change regulations and for ensuring the timely submission of all required deliverables.  The Project Manager is also responsible for ensuring the application of and conformance to sound financial management procedures by the team leaders.  The Project Manager will serve as the team’s primary point of contact for program partners, serving as principal liaison with partners and Build Change staff, counterpart institutions, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.  

Project Management Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate and direct the technical assistance component of a large scale owner-driven rural housing reconstruction project in 3 Districts.
  • Responsible for making detailed plans for timely completion of projects and to accomplish goals.
  • Maintain ownership of project milestones and schedule, and communicate and report regularly to the management about the project progress and any issues that arise which may affect progress.
  • Prepare monthly reports and contribute to internal and external project reporting.
  • Providing the vision and overall leadership to the project team, ensuring effective and efficient performance for all aspects of the contract, and overseeing all quality control and reporting.
  • Identifying, leading and responding to task order requests issued and providing central management and oversight.
  • Coordinating assignments with consortium members, key counterparts as well as with the key stakeholders;
  • Interacting professionally with senior officials;
  • Ability to travel to project sites on an as-needed basis;
  • Extend relationship and networking with different actors at national and international levels in the interest of Build Change.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, PUblic Relation, Social Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years professional experience managing iNGO projects
  • Experience with managing teams of over 50 technical staff
  • Work experience in community led building projects will be an advantage.
  • At least 4 years’ experience working overseas, including experience working in crisis/unstable, post-disaster and conflict/insecure environments, as well as in developing countries. 
  • Coordination and team building skills.
  • Minimum four-year bachelor's degree in business management
  • No ego, drama, or pessimism; the successful candidate will be flexible, humble, patient, and have a good sense of humor.
  • Fluent English and Nepali.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in high-level strategic visioning and leadership and experience in working effectively with local civil society organizations, host country government counterparts and/or other international development partners
  • Proven leadership in the design, project management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of similar-sized and technical focus international donor-supported programs, with skills in strategic planning, management, supervision and budgeting, and experience in managing donor funded/supported development programs
  • Good organizational, communication, leadership, financial management capabilities, problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with different areas of construction as well as workplace safety and building codes a plus.
  • Knowledgeable regarding principles and good practice in strategic planning and organizational development and in program design of inputs, activities and strategies to achieve program objectives, including solid knowledge of gender, capacity/community development and monitoring & evaluation (M&E) related to Build Change policies in these key areas. 
  • Skills in human resources management and leadership development and ability to work in cross-cultural situations with political and cultural nuances.
  • Experience managing local A/E and/or construction management sub-contractors a plus.
  • Experience working with various country policies and procedures and developing and managing multiple small and large project schedules and budgets.
