If Yes, then you can become a part of a volunteering opportunity which brings together Nepali and UK youths working in partnership in community development projects for three months. 

VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers. VSO Nepal has worked in Nepal since 1964 to improve the lives of impoverished people in some of the country’s poorest districts. 

VSO Nepal is implementing a UK Government fundedInternational Citizen Service (ICS) programme, which promotes intercultural dialogue, mutual learning and development between young people from the UK and Nepal. It gives 18-25 year olds the chance to spend three months in a community to help make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people. 

Through living and learning alongside communities, you will gain first-hand knowledge and experience of good practice in development work and are in turn, able to make practical and meaningful contributions to the communities in which they undergo action learning. 

We are currently recruiting Action Learners and Team Leaders for the period of November to February.

Community Action Learners (50 positions)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Good verbal English language skills
  • Strong interpersonal skill (working with other stakeholders in the community, and people from different culture, caste and ethnicity)
  • Commitment for development work and can lead by example for youth and the communities 
  • Strong commitment to complete the entire 3 month cycle (November to February)
  • 18-25 years of age

Team Leaders (5 positions)

  • Team Leaders will be based in a community supporting Action Learners and the Project Coordinator in planning, coordinating and implementing the ICS programme activities. Team Leaders are also responsible for the mentoring and care of ICS Action Learners involved in the implementation of the projects. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 23 years of age
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • A full commitment to stay in the community for at least 16 weeks (32 weeks preferred) 
  • Experience of working with/supporting young people from varying backgrounds (cross culture environment desirable) 
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities and able to plan logically, managing a varied workload and working environment 
  • Ability to empower and motivate team members
  • A very strong interest to live and work in a cross cultural environment

Action Learners and Team Leaders will live in host homes, sometimes quite remote, and conditions will be basic, so be prepared for a challenging and fantastic experience.

VSO will cover your living, food, and transportation cost during your time. This is not a paid position, but it should not cost you anything to participate.
