CLEAN UP NEPAL is also known as Swachha Safa Nepal, established in 2014, is a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a vision to transformed Nepal where circular economies and clean systems ensure environmental justice, climate resilience, and prosperity for all generations. The organization’s focus is to create a zero-waste, climate-resilient Nepal with clean air, land, and water by empowering communities and strengthening local systems for sustainable development. By combining technology, circular economy practices, community mobilization, policy influence, and cross-sector partnerships with synergies, CLEAN UP NEPAL drives sustainable, scalable, and inclusive solutions. It stands as a pivotal force in Nepal’s journey toward environmental resilience, social equity, and sustainable development, aligning local actions with national and global sustainability goals.

Awareness raising, skill development training, and the formation of Recycling and Upcycling (RU) groups in selected communities of the Eastern Cluster of Pokhara, facilitated by CLEAN UP NEPAL in a joint venture with Green Road Waste Management Pvt. Ltd, are key initiatives under the Green Job Creation through Recycling and Upcycling in Pokhara (GCRU) Project. The project is implemented with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nepal, in collaboration with Pokhara Metropolitan City.

The Project will conduct  entrepreneurship/ skills development trainings and provide machinery, tools and equipment support to members of RU groups representing selected Tole Lane Organizations (TLOs). These trainings and support initiatives aim to strengthen the knowledge and skills of RU group members, while fostering connections with potential and existing RU enterprises engaged in recycling and upcycling waste. Trained RU groups will collaborate closely with aspiring and existing RU enterprises to supply clean raw materials within the supply chain, assist in the production of final products through semi- or pre-processing of waste, or independently produce final products.

1. Job title: Mechanical Engineer

Required number: 1

Duration: Short term

Location: Based in Pokhara Metropolitan City, Kaski district

Job Type: Full-time

We are looking for a passionate, proactive, and diligent individual interested and well-experienced in Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer must meet the following requirements as Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on, practical experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing faults, repairing, and maintaining light to medium industrial machinery. This includes mechanical systems, power transmission, hydraulics/pneumatics (if applicable), and basic electrical controls associated with such machinery.
  • Direct experience with machinery commonly used in recycling and upcycling operations, such as plastic shredders, crushers, compactors, extruders, injection moulding machines, and sewing/stitching machines for upcycled products. Experience in sourcing appropriate spare parts locally is crucial.
  • Proven ability to work independently in field conditions with limited tools and resources. Demonstrated capability to develop simple, pictorial preventive maintenance schedules and provide basic operational training to non-technical personnel (community enterprise groups).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site technical assessments for each RU group to identify specific capacity gaps, production constraints, and site readiness for equipment installation prior to procurement and training.
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and technical drawings for machinery and equipment required by RU groups, ensuring specifications meet operational needs and safety standards.
  • Inspect and verify that installation sites are ready and suitable for equipment placement, ensuring proper space, electrical connections, and safety conditions are in place before delivery.
  • Supervise the delivery, installation, and commissioning of all machinery and equipment. Conduct test runs to certify that machines operate as intended and meet technical compliance and operational safety standards.
  • Deliver basic operational training to RU group members on proper machine handling, safety protocols, and routine maintenance procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Provide on-demand troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair support to RU groups throughout the contract period to ensure uninterrupted enterprise operations and minimize downtime.
  • Create simple, pictorial preventive maintenance schedules for each type of equipment and provide guidance to RU groups on regular maintenance practices to extend equipment lifespan.
  • Provide technical support in the design and feasibility assessment of civil works, including community waste collection centers, waste booms in rivers/streams, and waste bins, ensuring compliance with municipal standards and operational requirements.

2. Job title: Procurement and Logistics Officer

We are looking for a passionate, proactive, and diligent individual interested and well-experienced in Procurement and Logistic Officer. The Procurement and Logistic Officer must meet the following requirements as Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in procurement process management, contract management, and supply chain operations. Experience working with donor-funded projects (e.g., UN, UNDP, INGO) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing procurement documents including Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and Invitations to Bid (ITB). Proven ability to conduct market surveys and identify reliable vendors/suppliers.
  • Proven experience in evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, monitoring vendor performance, and maintaining accurate and transparent records of procurement processes, contracts, and payments in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive procurement documents including Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and Invitations to Bid (ITB) in accordance with CLEAN UP NEPAL's Procurement Policy and UNDP rules.
  • Identify, assess, and shortlist potential vendors and suppliers through market surveys, ensuring competitive pricing, reliability, and adherence to green operation specifications and environment-friendly criteria.
  • Collect and evaluate bids and proposals from at least three qualified suppliers, prepare bid evaluation reports, and present recommendations to the Procurement Committee for decision-making.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions with selected vendors, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, delivery timelines, and organizational requirements. Prepare and manage purchase orders.
  • Oversee the timely delivery of equipment and tools to designated sites in Pokhara, coordinating with vendors, the Mechanical Engineer, and Social Mobilizers to ensure smooth logistics.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanical Engineer to verify site readiness, supervise equipment installation and commissioning, and ensure tri-party handover certificates and user manuals are issued to RU groups and ward offices.
  • Track vendor performance, ensure compliance with contract terms, and address any issues related to quality, delivery delays, or warranty claims promptly.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and auditable records of all procurement processes, including bid documents, evaluation reports, contracts, purchase orders, delivery notes, and payment documentation in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Any other related duties as requested by the office.

3. Job title: RU Trainer

We are looking for a passionate, proactive, and diligent individual interested and well-experienced in RU Trainer. The RU Trainer must meet the following requirements as Essential skills and experience:

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Solid Waste Management (with specialization in Recycling/Upcycling), Economics, or an equivalent relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in solid waste management, with a specific focus on recycling and upcycling entrepreneurship, including hands-on experience in production using both hand tools and machinery.
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in conducting orientation and awareness activities, innovative idea generation, skill development training, and business development skill training specifically related to setting up recycling and upcycling enterprises.
  • Proven experience in capacity building event facilitation and coordination with community groups, local government, and private sectors to effectively implement project activities. Experience working in Pokhara Metropolitan City is an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed session plans, resource materials, and training modules for SDT-1, SDT-2 and SDT-3 specialized training based on the needs assessment of RU groups and the GCRU SDT Manual.
  • Facilitate and deliver SDT-1, SDT-2 and hands-on, need-based specialized training (SDT-3) to selected RU groups, covering areas such as plastic shredding, injection moulding, paper pulping, advanced stitching, and finishing techniques.
  • Provide practical training on proper machine operation, occupational health and safety protocols, quality standards, and preventive maintenance to ensure sustainability and reduce operational downtime.
  • Guide RU groups in developing innovative product ideas from various waste fractions, ensuring products are marketable, functional, and aligned with circular economy principles.
  • Contribute to the technical assessment of RU groups to identify specific capacity gaps, production constraints, and appropriate equipment needs for specialized training.
  • Conduct quarterly on-site mentoring visits to RU groups to provide technical guidance on product diversification, quality improvement, troubleshooting, and efficient production techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with the Mechanical Engineer to ensure training content aligns with equipment specifications and to provide feedback on equipment functionality and maintenance needs.
  • Prepare comprehensive training reports, including participant assessments, training outcomes, and recommendations for further upscaling of skills development initiatives.
  • Any other related duties as requested by the office.
