Background
Bheri Environmental Excellence Group (BEE-Group) is a non-governmental organization that was established in 2000 AD. The organization focuses on promoting human rights, conserving the environment and biodiversity, and supporting community development. Since its inception, BEE-Group has been dedicated to strengthening the capacity of vulnerable communities and local governments in areas such as disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and resilience building. This work includes enhancing the health system, education, water, sanitation, hygiene, and sustainable livelihoods in the Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces of Nepal with a trustworthy reputation in a wider range.
The project aims to promote disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation to enhance the resilience and sustainable livelihoods of communities in the agroecological zone of Raptisonari Rural Municipality, Banke district. BEE-Group is implementing the CCA-DRR project, which focuses on building the resilience of vulnerable communities to climate and multi-hazard risks. This is achieved through climate-smart agriculture and livestock interventions, as well as technologies that support adaptation and mitigation measures against various hazards. The project also includes cross-sectoral interventions to further strengthen disaster risk reduction efforts. The project interventions focus on:
- Enhance connections between communities and stakeholders at various levels to effectively address disaster risk reduction through climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, enabling communities to strengthen their adaptive capacity and resilience.
- Emphasize group-based livelihood interventions, including on-farm and off-farm initiatives that adopt climate-smart technologies. The project provides various activities to address climate change and other hazards and disasters in communities, whether expected or unexpected.
- It aims to enhance preparedness and strengthen the community's early warning system for flood risk reduction. This will involve building the capacity of local communities through established social structures and promoting nature-based solutions. The project focus will be on assisting the most vulnerable populations living in wards 2, 3, 4, and 5, in the flood-prone area of Raptisonari Rural Municipality.
