Position Title: Project Officer- Energy Efficiency

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Reports to: Energy Specialist (RE&EE)

Location: Project office in Kathmandu with frequent field travel

Duration of Contract: 2 years (Probation period of 3 months)

Background

Powering Nepal’s Green Industrial Future (Power-GIF) is a Government of Norway–supported initiative aiming to utilize the projected growth in power generation to accelerate Nepal’s transition toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and industrialized economy.  The initiative, aimed at promoting industrial electrification and clean energy adoption to advance green, resilient and inclusive development, is being implemented by Centre for Rural Technology led consortium in participation of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Confederation of Nepalese Industries, Center for Energy Studies, and Ambidience Global. With a combination of technical expertise, policy engagement, and strong private sector linkages, the project supports industrial decarbonization through policy support, technology demonstration, capacity building, digital innovations and access to innovative financing solutions.

To support the Energy Specialist (Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency) with the technical inputs for industrial electrification, energy efficiency, and renewable energy integration, supporting the design and implementation of low-carbon solutions, CRT/N is seeking an Energy Efficiency. 

Scope of Work

Under the supervision of the Energy Specialist, the Project Officer-EE will be responsible for:

  • Support day-to-day implementation of project activities related to energy efficiency and fuel switching.
  • Provide technical input in the assessment, design, and implementation of energy efficiency measures across industrial, commercial, and household sectors.
  • Support identification and promotion of fuel switching opportunities (e.g., transition from fossil fuels/traditional biomass to electricity and cleaner energy alternatives).
  • Assist in conducting energy audits, load assessments, and feasibility studies for EE and fuel switching interventions.
  • Ensure quality assurance of EE technologies, equipment, and installation practices in coordination with technical experts.
  • Conduct research and analysis to strengthen EE interventions, emerging technologies, and policy frameworks for fuel switching.
  • Carry out field monitoring, data collection, and performance tracking of EE and fuel switching initiatives, including documentation of results and lessons learned.
  • Assist in organizing training, awareness programs, and capacity-building activities on energy efficiency and clean solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, progress updates, case studies, and inputs for donor reporting related to EE and fuel switching components.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and coordination with industries, local governments, financial institutions, and service providers to promote EE adoption and fuel switching. 
  • Assist in developing business cases and financial models for EE investments and fuel switching technologies in collaboration with the Green Finance and Industrial Energy Expert.
  • Support procurement processes, vendor coordination, and logistics related to EE equipment and pilot interventions.
  • Facilitate coordination meetings, prepare minutes, and follow up on agreed actions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support identification of funding opportunities and contribute to proposal development focusing on EE and fuel switching interventions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Energy Specialist in line with project and organizational needs.

Workstation

The Project Officer- Energy Efficiency will be based in project office in Kathmandu with frequent field travel.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Energy Engineering) or a related field. Certification as an Energy Auditor will be considered a strong asset. 
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in project implementation, with demonstrated experience in energy efficiency and fuel switching interventions. Experience working with the industrial sector and development partners will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated strong technical knowledge and practical experience in energy efficiency measures, energy audits, and fuel switching solutions, including electrification and clean thermal applications. 
  • Sound understanding of energy consumption analysis, efficiency improvement techniques, emission reduction approaches, and financial viability of EE and fuel switching investments.
  • Proven field experience in conducting or supporting energy audits, implementation of EE interventions, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and monitoring of project activities.
  • Good understanding of national policies, strategies, and regulatory frameworks related to energy efficiency, electrification, and industrial decarbonization in Nepal. 
  • Strong analytical, research, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and take initiative when required.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Familiarity with energy audit tools, data analysis, and basic financial modeling for EE investments will be an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Working Hours

Working hours will align with project office’s normal schedule (Monday to Friday)

Remuneration

Remuneration and allowances are based on qualifications and experience, in line with project’s human resource policies. Applicants are strongly recommended to state their salary expectations in the cover letter.
