For our Financial Accounting, Finance & Controlling department we are looking for a Financial Officer located in Kathmandu, Nepal to join our organisation as per August, 2025 or upon agreement. Financial Officer
Your main tasks: Enter accounts payable invoices into the Abacus system, including both domestic and international entries. Create and maintain supplier master data in compliance with procurement guidelines. Initiate the weekly payment run after performing required validations. Manage direct debit entries, including credit card transactions, and ensure accurate reconciliation of related accounts. Clarify missing or non-compliant invoice information and ensure smooth resolution with internal and external stakeholders. Request and verify social security certificates from self-employed individuals. Address internal and external inquiries related to accounts payable and support invoice translation (German/French to English) using a translation tool. Oversee timely and accurate monthly worktime registration of Helvetas staff. Ensure proper and prompt recording of all financial transactions. Conduct checks to uphold the quality of financial accounting and support the semi-annual and annual financial statement processes. Stay informed on current financial and accounting standards to ensure continuous accuracy and compliance. Monitor incoming payments and manage open receivables efficiently. Communicate effectively with internal and external counterparts to resolve outstanding debtors. Perform regular reconciliation of debtor accounts. Train new employees in accounts payable and authorization processes and provide training to Helvetas staff on system and process updates. Develop training materials, including videos, and coordinate closely with the Head Office.
Required Education and Experience: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business administration/management/Commerce. Must have in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and practices, supported by at least 6 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in the NGO sector is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate strong number-oriented thinking, a precise and accurate working style, and excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and in a structured manner is essential. High flexibility and stress resilience are required, alongside quick comprehension and adaptability. Being a team player with a high sense of responsibility, trustworthiness, accountability, and ethical decision-making is critical. Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of German or French is considered an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with Abacus Business Software, particularly the accounts payable module, are essential for this role.
Duty station: Kathmandu, Nepal
Duration: Initially three years with a possibility of extension.
