I. Project Background
The Shared Prosperity Mapping (SPM) is a strategic initiative designed to develop a multidimensional Shared Prosperity Index (SPI) for the Koshi River Basin. The project is built upon three core pillars:
- Socio-economic and Institutional Exclusion: Identifying the social and systemic barriers that prevent marginalized groups from accessing resources and services.
- Poverty and Livelihood: Analyzing household income patterns, wealth distribution, and the sustainability of local livelihoods.
- Climate and Disaster Vulnerability: Mapping community exposure and sensitivity to floods, landslides, and climate-related hazards.
The project seeks to ensure that municipal development is evidence-based and inclusive of those most often left behind.
II. Geographic Scope
IES is recruiting one (1) Field Supervisor for each of the following six municipalities. Local residency is a high priority:
- Gadhi Rural Municipality (Sunsari)
- Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality (Saptari)
- Belaka Municipality (Udayapur)
- Sunkoshi Rural Municipality (Sindhuli)
- Halesi Tuwachung Municipality (Khotang)
- Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality (Khotang)
III. Duties and Responsibilities (Package-Based)
The selected individuals will lead all field activities within their assigned municipality. The main tasks include:
- Leading the Survey Team: Manage a group of data collectors (enumerators) to make sure they visit the required number of houses and record information correctly on mobile phones using the KoBoToolbox app.
- Leading Community Discussions: Organize and lead group meetings (Focus Group Discussions) and one-on-one interviews (Key Informant Interviews). You must make sure that women, Dalits, Janajatis, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) can speak freely and that their opinions are recorded.
- Participatory Mapping: Work with community members and local groups to identify and draw maps of areas at risk of floods, landslides, or other disasters.
- Checking Data Quality: Regularly check the team’s work by visiting the households they surveyed and checking GPS locations to make sure all information is 100% true and accurate.
- Government Coordination: Act as the main contact person for Ward and Municipal offices. You will explain the project to local leaders and ensure they support the field team’s work.
IV. Required Skills and Experience
- Education: Minimum of Plus 2 (Intermediate) degree. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Rural Development or any relevant field are also encouraged to apply.
- Field Knowledge: Strong hands-on experience in community mobilization, leading field teams, or conducting local social assessments.
- Technical Skills: Experience using KoBoToolbox for mobile data collection.
- Research Experience: Proven experience in leading group discussions (FGDs) and interviews (KIIs) with community members and local officials.
- Background: Prior experience working with NGOs or Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in local field roles.
- Language: Fluency in Nepali. Fluency in local languages (Maithili or indigenous languages of the project area) is a high priority.
V. Special Instructions & Local Priority
- Local Residency: High priority will be given to qualified individuals who are local residents of the target districts (Sunsari, Saptari, Udayapur, Sindhuli, and Khotang).
- Work Focus: This role is for Social Science and Community Research. It involves talking to people and collecting social data, not construction or engineering work.
