Communication Officer
One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in the area of Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) since 2011. OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Position: Communication Officer
Duty Station: Kathmandu with frequent field travel (up to 50%)
The Communication Officer supports efforts to strengthen One Heart Worldwide (OHW)’s visibility and impact by turning field stories, program results, and impact into compelling content. Working with Nepali and global teams, the role helps to manage digital presence, media relations, and stakeholder communications, ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging. It bridges implementation and public engagement while amplifying OHW’s identity, advocacy, and knowledge sharing.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Content Development
- Create compelling success stories, case studies, newsletters, reports, donor visibility materials, and strategic communication content.
- Work with the programs team to capture and document program achievements, impact stories, lessons learned, and stakeholder experiences.
- Conduct interviews and collect photos, videos, testimonials, and field evidence to showcase program impact.
- Strengthen donor and technical reporting through engaging storytelling, visuals, and evidence-based communication.
Digital Communication
- With support from the Communications Lead, oversee the management of social media and digital communications platforms to strengthen organizational visibility, engagement, and advocacy.
- Design and implement digital campaigns that amplify program impact, organization presence, and audience reach.
- Create, manage, and coordinate engaging social media content in collaboration with Nepal & global teams.
- Monitor digital performance, analyze audience insights, and optimize communication strategies for greater impact.
Public Communication
- Cultivate strategic media partnerships to enhance organizational visibility and public engagement.
- Support media relations by managing inquiries, securing coverage, and identifying high-impact publicity opportunities.
- Develop and execute communication plans, key messages, and media materials to support organizational priorities.
- Prepare and review external communications, including crisis and sensitive messaging, ensuring accuracy and organizational integrity.
- Support the development and implementation of communications, engagement, and strategy campaigns that meet specific program, revenue, or recruitment-driven objectives.
Audio-Visual Production and Documentation
- Document program activities, events, workshops, campaigns, and interventions through photography and videography.
- Prepare, edit, and manage audio-visual materials for organizational, partner, and public communication purposes.
- Ensure high-quality and impactful visuals support communication products.
- Maintain and organize an archive of photos, videos, publications, and communication assets.
Knowledge Management
- Collect, organize, and disseminate lessons learned, project achievements, success stories, and best practices.
- Maintain communication databases, digital archives, and resources for future reference and reporting purposes.
- Support organizational learning through systematic documentation and information sharing.
Compliance and Advocacy
- Ensure high-quality, donor-compliant communications and develop impactful visibility materials that strengthen organizational branding and stakeholder engagement.
- Lead advocacy, public engagement, and communication initiatives by coordinating with government agencies, partners, communities, media, and other key stakeholders.
- Document and showcase program impact through field visits, strategic storytelling, timely reporting, event support, and other communication assignments aligned with organizational priorities.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication or a related field.
- Minimum four years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, public relations, or development-sector communication.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali.
- Strong storytelling, report writing, editing, and content development skills.
- Experience managing social media platforms and digital communication campaigns.
- Proficiency in photography, videography, and multimedia content production.
- Experience in graphic design and multimedia tools.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Creative self-starter who takes initiative to propose new ideas and takes on responsibilities with minimal oversight
- A high level of care and attention to detail; manages resources efficiently and checks work to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Willingness for frequent travel to remote field areas.
- Experience with social media management software (Sprout Social, Buffer, Hootsuite) and web analytics will be preferred.
