Participants for Learning Exchange Program – FIAN Zambia & FIAN Nepal
Project: Right to Food Advocacy Exchange: Nepal & Zambia,
Duty Station: Lusaka (FIAN Zambia)- with frequent field visit (5 months for abroad and subsequent follow up for 4 months in Nepal)
Number of Participants: 2 (1 Female & 1 Male)
Reporting to: FIAN Zambia Coordinator & FIAN Nepal Coordinator.
FIAN Nepal invites applications from qualified and motivated candidates to participate in the Norec-funded international exchange programme titled “Right to Food Advocacy Exchange: Nepal & Zambia”. The exchange aims to strengthen right-to-food advocacy capacities, enhance cross-country learning, and promote human rights-based approaches through practical exposure and collaborative engagement. Participants will stay Five (5) months in FIAN Zambia, followed by four (4) months of follow-up assignments in FIAN Nepal.
Key Responsibilities (The selected Exchange Participant will):
A. Work on Exchange period in Zambia (5 months)
- In-house orientation to understand about approach of FIAN Zambia related to agro-ecology principles, practices and climate change from right to food perspective etc
- Review documents related with agroecology and climate change on livelihood (law/policies, practices/program etc)
- Field visit and observation of communities adopting agroecology practices in farming
- Visit right to food affected communities due to impact of climate change and documentation
- Participate during the entire process for the development of tools, methods and process to conduct study on impact of climate change and agroecology in the context of right to food
- Participate during entire process of study on Loss and Damages cases
- Reporting and documentation incorporating learning and reflection of entire work/process
- Maintain regular communication with FIAN Nepal as required by the Agreement.
- Participate in Norec-compulsory trainings, meetings, and partner reviews
B. Follow-up Work in Nepal after exchange period (4 months)
- Support documenting effect of climate change issue from right to food perspective.
- Assist organization to conduct events on climate change and agroecology.
- Review and revise existing practices (tools, techniques, process, best practices) of organization on climate change and agroecology.
- Facilitate community to develop advocacy strategies in climate change and agroecology issues.
- Orientation to ‘Community Right to Food Promoters’ on new tools & technology of agroecology practices.
- Orientation on learning experiences on impact of climate change to the organization
- Assist organization to document right to food violation issues/cases due to climate change.
- Support FIAN Nepal in strengthening advocacy initiatives using insights gained from FIAN Zambia.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights, Law, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Agriculture, Nutrition, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of working experience, preferably in human rights, advocacy, agroecology, climate change research, food security or community mobilization.
- Demonstrated understanding of Right to Food, human rights frameworks, and governance issues.
- Experience in report writing, documentation, and evidence-based advocacy.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong commitment to human rights, non-discrimination, gender equality and social justice.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-cultural environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Basic financial discipline and willingness to follow Norec’s financial management & reporting norms (activity logs, budgeting basics, etc.)
- Sensitivity to anti-corruption standards, SEAH (Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment) guidelines, and ethical principles.
- Strong adaptability, learning attitude, and resilience to work in a new country context.
Eligibility Requirements (as per Norec & Agreement)- Candidates must:
- Be between 22-35 years
- Be Nepali citizens with a valid passport
- Be willing to stay abroad for 5 months and complete the 4-month follow-up period in Nepal.
- Be medically fit and willing to undergo health and safety training.
- Commit to full compliance with Norec Ethical Principles, reporting requirements, and FIAN Nepal and FIAN Zambia’s code of conduct. Demonstrated motivation for international exchange and learning.
- Not have previously participated in a Norec exchange programme (preferred).
- Participants should be from FIAN Nepal working areas (Bagmati, Karnali & Surdurpaschim Province)
- Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to represent FIAN Nepal professionally in an international setting. Gender balance and inclusion considerations.
