Terms of Reference (TOR) for Agriculture Consultant

Heifer International Nepal (Heifer) is dedicated to ending hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth through agriculture-based livelihood and market system development programs. Heifer International Nepal seeks to recruit an Agriculture Technician consultant.

Position: Agriculture Consultant

Department: Market Development

Number: 1

Duration: 6 Months (February 2026-July 2026)

Duty Station/Location: Baglung

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical support to the project implementers for the smooth implementation of project activities. 
2. Provide technical backstopping to farmers and cooperatives for the adoption of climate-smart agriculture technologies for increased production and productivity. 
3. Facilitate the establishment of technology demonstration plots and extension of proven technologies.
4. Support the producer organizations on collective action, postharvest handling, branding, and marketing of their agricultural products. 
5. Collaborate and co-create with local government in planning, conducting on-site training, monitoring, and facilitating market linkages for agricultural commodities.  
6. Collect and compile field-level information for local value chain mapping and leverage points identification, 
7. Conduct field monitoring visits, collect qualitative and quantitative results, insights, and lessons learned from the project, 
8. Support the project participating in cooperatives for improved business management,
9. Support the cooperatives to explore opportunities for the establishment and strengthening of business development services,
10. Support in organizing training, workshops, and other project interventions. 
11. Collaborate with the communications team to document and develop case studies and success stories highlighting project interventions and lessons learnt.
12. Undertake any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor, relevant to the scope of the position.

Qualifications and Skills:

• At least a Bachelor’s degree in agricultural science with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience working with vegetable and fruit producer organizations on regenerative production practices, collective actions, postharvest handling, branding, and marketing. 
• Strong learning attitude, self-motivated, and enthusiastic to work with small-scale farmers in rural areas. 
• Willingness to travel and spend considerable time in the field. 
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Proficient in computer skills, especially with the MS Office package.
• Sensitive to working with multiple cultures, beliefs, and gender equity. 
• Candidates with a valid two-wheeler license who are willing to use their two-wheeler for official field visits are encouraged to apply.
