The Institute for Frontier Studies (IFS) is a non-partisan, research and consulting institute established in 2014, dedicated to advancing inclusive, climate-resilient, and sustainable development. Over the years, IFS has partnered with a wide range of government agencies, multilateral organizations, and NGOs to promote data-driven governance and transformative impact on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop well-structured, compelling, and tailored research and project proposals in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and Terms of Reference (ToRs) issued by donors, NGOs, government agencies, and academic institutions.
  • Review and analyze macroeconomic policies, sectoral strategies, and relevant policy documents to ensure alignment of proposals with national priorities and donor agendas.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and program teams to conceptualize project ideas, define methodologies, and prepare budgets and timelines.
  • Support the design of research tools (e.g., surveys, interview guides) and fieldwork planning.
  • Participate in field visits, coordinate logistics, conduct interviews, and transcribe data as required.
  • Assist with data coding, cleaning, and analysis using tools such as Excel, SPSS/Stata, NVivo.
  • Draft and contribute to internal and external knowledge products, including field reports, blogs, policy briefs, and research papers.
  • Support the organization of research dissemination events, stakeholder consultations, and training sessions.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or research team.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field. Prior experience or strong interest in research, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), data analysis, or public policy
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as SPSS, Stata, Python or Excel, and digital data collection platforms like KoBoToolbox or SurveyCTO; proficiency in Canva is an added advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Nepali.
  •  Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.

Allowance

IFS will provide daily subsistence allowance.

Duration

Initially for three months that can be extended for six months. Internship can be turned into staff position based on the availability of the funding.
