Lutheran World Relief (LWR) invites proposals from microfinance institutions (Class D) as licensed by the Nepal Rastra Bank to increase lending to aquaculture fish farmers, hatcheries, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and other relevant value chain actors. The recipient will also increase saving practices.

Preliminary field assessment has shown that access to finance remains a critical bottleneck that holds back the growth of aquaculture actors.

Aquaculture actors, particularly farmers, have difficulty accessing credit through formal channels due to various reasons including the inability to demonstrate creditworthiness owing to lack of proper book-keeping, high collateral requirements, and often a lack of prior experience accessing formal finance. Banks, on the other hand, consider lending to actors as riskier and costlier compared to lending to larger businesses.

Consultancy Type: Open to micro finance institutions (Class D) as licensed by the Nepal Rastra Bank

Level of Effort: 90 calendar days from contract signing

Reporting to: Technical Senior Manager, Financial Services

Application Deadline: July 24, 2026

Interested candidates are requested to submit:

• A short cover letter (maximum one page)
• Proposed technical approach/methodology summary
• Branch network and implementation coverage plan
• Proposed loan disbursement schedule
• Cost per borrower reached and the expected disbursement schedule for the loans disbursed
• Expected number of borrowers and value of disbursement by 15 September 2026
• Brief description of similar assignments completed.
