The Centre for Mental Health and Counselling–Nepal (CMC-Nepal) is a national-level non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting mental health and psychosocial well-being. We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Psychosocial Counsellor in the Karnali Earthquake Recovery Project – MHPSS.
The Karnali Earthquake Recovery Project – MHPSS is funded and supported by CBM Global. It aims to contribute to improved well-being and resilience of communities affected by the 2023 Jajarkot earthquake. The project is being implemented in Barekot Rural Municipality and Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot District, and Sanibheri Rural Municipality of Rukum West District in Karnali Province, Nepal.

Position Overview:
The primary objective of the position is to provide mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and counselling to people affected by the Jajarkot earthquake. It aims to improve the mental health and psychosocial well-being of these individuals, including persons with disabilities and those with, or at risk of, mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities in the project areas. The individual will be responsible for conducting one-to-one and group counselling, family sensitization, community awareness activities, coordination, and reporting on MHPSS responses for CMC-Nepal, as designated.
Major duties and responsibilities :
- Provide one-to-one mental health and psychosocial counselling/support at the community level, including follow-up and referrals.
- Conduct orientations and family sensitization on mental health, psychosocial well-being, disability inclusion, disaster response, and self-care.
- Support and guide CPSWs in planning, implementation, and reporting of community-based activities in coordination with the Program cum MEAL Officer and Project Coordinator.
- Link persons with and at risk of mental health conditions, psychosocial disabilities, and earthquake-affected individuals to social security schemes and disability benefits.
- Provide support in the formation and mobilization of Peer Groups and Self-Help Groups, empowering them for co-recovery and policy advocacy for disability-inclusive MHPSS at the local level.
Qualification and experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or public health, with a six-month psychosocial counselling training (NHTC or recognized organization).
- Minimum one year of experience as a psychosocial counsellor, preferably in humanitarian or community-based MHPSS projects.
- Strong understanding of psychosocial interventions, leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email proficiency, and report writing in English and Nepali.
- Motivated to work in multicultural and challenging environments, able to work multi-sectoral, build effective relationships, and undertake field visits.
