Project Coordinator – 1 Position (Salyan)

Project: Promoting Inclusive Education (Supported by Felm Nepal)

Duration: Initially one year with possible extension based on performance and funding availability.

Reports To: Program Manager

Background

KOSHISH is implementing the Promoting Inclusive Education Project in Salyan district with support from Felm Nepal. The project aims to improve access to inclusive quality education for children with disabilities and marginalized children through strengthening disability-friendly school environments, teacher capacity development, psychosocial and wellbeing support, community engagement, and local government ownership of inclusive education systems.

To ensure effective implementation, KOSHISH seeks a qualified Project Coordinator to provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership at district level.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will lead the overall district-level implementation of the project under the supervision of the Program Manager. The Project Coordinator will ensure high-quality planning, execution, monitoring, stakeholder engagement, team supervision, financial compliance, and documentation of project results.

The role requires strong leadership in inclusive education programming, disability inclusion, local governance engagement, safeguarding, and results-based management.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Leadership and Implementation:

  • Lead district-level implementation of the project in line with approved project document, annual work plans, budget, and results framework. 
  • Prepare detailed implementation plans (monthly, quarterly, annual) with clear deliverables and timelines. 
  • Ensure quality delivery of activities related to: 
    • Disability-friendly school infrastructure support, 
    • Teacher capacity building on inclusive pedagogy and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), 
    • Psychosocial wellbeing and school counselling mechanisms, 
    • Child clubs / extracurricular inclusion initiatives, 
    • School-at-Home support for out-of-school children, 
    • Assistive device support and referral linkages, 
    • Caregiver/self-help group strengthening, 
    • Community awareness and advocacy initiatives. 
  • Ensure interventions are technically sound, inclusive, and contextually appropriate.

Government and Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Maintain close coordination with Municipal/Rural Municipal leadership, Education Sections, School Management Committees, Disability Coordination Committees, Women and Children Units, schools/head teachers, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), child clubs and community groups. 
  • Facilitate local-level policy dialogue and advocacy for disability-inclusive education. 
  • Support municipalities to strengthen School Education Sector Plans (SESP) and integrate inclusive education priorities into local planning and budgeting. 
  • Represent KOSHISH in district coordination forums and stakeholder meetings.

Team Management and Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision to project staff including Advocacy Officer, Social Mobilizers, Psychosocial Counsellor, and Admin/Finance staff. 
  • Ensure clear performance targets, coaching, mentoring, and supportive supervision. 
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews and staff development planning. 
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, inclusion, and wellbeing of project staff. 
  • Ensure staff compliance with organizational policies, HR systems, and reporting requirements.

MEAL, Documentation and Reporting

  • Lead implementation of project MEAL systems in coordination with central MEAL unit. 
  • Ensure timely collection of quality data against project indicators (sex-, age-, and disability-disaggregated). 
  • Maintain project database, documentation files, and Means of Verification. 
  • Prepare quality: monthly reports, quarterly reports, annual narrative reports, donor reporting inputs, case studies, success stories, lessons learned documentation. 
  • Support baseline, periodic review, and endline processes. 
  • Ensure evidence-based adaptive management.

Financial and Operational Management

  • Prepare activity budgets and expenditure forecasts. 
  • Ensure project expenditures align with approved budget lines and donor compliance standards. 
  • Coordinate closely with Finance Unit on: budget tracking, financial forecasting, liquidation, procurement planning, and asset management. 
  • Ensure cost efficiency, transparency, and accountability in project implementation.

Advocacy and Capacity Strengthening

  • Facilitate advocacy initiatives promoting: rights to inclusive education, disability inclusion, child rights, accessible school environments, local budget allocation for inclusive education. 
  • Promote capacity strengthening of teachers, local government actors, schools, caregivers, and OPDs. 
  • Document and share project learning for replication and policy influence.

Safeguarding, Inclusion and Risk Management:

  • Ensure full compliance with: safeguarding policy, child protection policy, PSEAH policy, Code of Conduct. 
  • Ensure all project activities are safe, accessible, and inclusive. 
  • Identify implementation risks and mitigation measures. 
  • Ensure complaint/feedback mechanisms are functional and accessible.

Others:

Carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by Program Manager or Executive Management consistent with the position.

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Development Studies, Disability Studies, or related field.
  • (Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.)
  • Minimum 5 years (Master’s) or 7 years (Bachelor’s) relevant experience in project management, inclusive education, disability inclusion, child rights programming, psychosocial support programming, or/and local governance strengthening.
  • Proven ability to manage risks and promote governance to contribute on strategic outcomes
  • Experience working with children and their wellbeing in both development or emergency contexts
  • Strong in quality report production and documentation.
  • Proven experience working in diverse and multicultural teams.
  • Strong Command on MS office and fluency in both written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Demonstrated experience working with local governments, schools, and community structures.
  • Experience managing donor-funded projects and reporting systems. 
  • Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
