Position: Policy, Advocacy and Governance Coordinator

Position Overview

As part of the PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT QUALITY AND INFLUENCE (PDQI) department, the position holder is responsible to support technical managers/coordinators to facilitate and lead the policy, advocacy, and campaigns related actions for both programs, and organizational level representation in provincial and local levels. Based in the Surkhet field office, the position holder will ensure that advocacy and policy asks are in line to the PDQI strategies, and organizations Country Strategy Position. One of the key roles of the position holder will be to gatekeep the advocacy and policy actions, conducted both in the field office and the partner level associations, ensuring a more holistic and inter- linked policy and advocacy actions influenced by context and evidence in hand. In regard to coordination, the position holder will ensure that thematic advisors in PDQI, thematic managers in the field office, with strategic guidance from Head of Field Operations, PDQI Director, Technical Advisors, Project Manager and Budget Holders are consulted while designing or activating policy, advocacy or campaigns related actions. Moreover, the position holder will also ensure that the best interest of the child is represented, and meaningful child participation in ensured in all advocacies, policy, and campaign related actions and processes.

It is encouraged that the position holder be well-versed on Nepal’s socio-political issues, local and national level child rights policies, and demonstrates knowledge on international best practices and policy standards that governs the child rights framework, and policy discussions. Furthermore, take a leading position, with guidance from the PDQI Director, Thematic Advisors, Project Managers/Budget Holders on pre-positioning policy and advocacy asks in compliance with international human/child rights standards. These actions will be led through a collaborative process, including the meaningful participation of children, CSOs, local partner organizations, government level stakeholders, etc. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree in human Rights/Law/Political sciences/Development studies/Sociology or related discipline (s) with 3 years of working experience in governance/advocacy and campaigning or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience. Knowledge and experience from national to local system for implementation of child rights
  • Drives external networks and partnerships
  • Demonstrate strong negotiation skills on policy related issues.
  • Shares knowledge and best practices on technical solutions so that others can make the best use of that expertise,
  • Delivers timely and appropriate results using available resources.
  • Has ability to adopt innovation in the program
  • Proficiency in writing technical and programmatic reports that document program directions and results Strong interpersonal communication and coordination skills.
