Call for Consultancy for Documentary Film Production under the

#RewriteHerStory Initiative

1. Background Information of YUWA

YUWA is a youth-led and youth-run organization established in 2009 that works to promote meaningful youth participation through empowerment, advocacy, research, and evidence- based programming. Over the years, YUWA has implemented diverse initiatives focusing on youth  leadership,  gender  equality,  sexual and  reproductive  health and  rights (SRHR),  active citizenship, climate justice, and social inclusion, with a strong commitment to amplifying the voices of young people in policy and development processes.

2. Background of the Project

Plan International Nepal has been working to  advance children's rights and equality for girls by addressing the structural barriers that  prevent  girls and  young people  from realizing their full potential. Through partnerships with government agencies, civil society organizations, communities, and young people, Plan International Nepal implements evidence-based programmes that promote gender equality, child protection, education, youth economic empowerment, and resilience.

The Child Not Bride (CNB) Project, implemented by Plan International Nepal in Bardiya and Dhanusha, aimed to contribute to the prevention of child, early and forced marriage by addressing the underlying social, economic, and gender inequalities that place girls at risk. The project strengthened community awareness, promoted girls' leadership and participation, enhanced access  to information  and services, supported  local  governance mechanisms, and worked with families and communities to transform harmful social norms that perpetuate child marriage.

Although  child marriage  remains  rooted  in  deeply  entrenched  gender  norms, its  drivers  are increasingly influenced by climate change and environmental shocks. Climate-induced disasters, livelihood insecurity, displacement, food insecurity, school interruption, and economic hardship often increase families' vulnerability, leading to harmful coping mechanisms such as child marriage. These interconnected challenges disproportionately affect adolescent girls and young women, limiting their education, safety, health, leadership opportunities, and future aspirations.

Recognizing these intersections, YUWA and Plan International Nepal have integrated climate justice into their advocacy efforts through the #UniteForResilience Campaign, which seeks to amplify youth voices and promote gender-responsive climate action. The campaign highlights how climate resilience cannot be achieved without protecting the rights of girls and addressing the social inequalities that climate change continues to deepen.

As the Child Not Bride Project concludes, there is a critical opportunity to document the project's achievements, lessons learned, and the lived experiences of girls, families, community leaders, and youth champions who have contributed to positive change. Documentary storytelling offers a powerful medium to preserve these experiences, amplify community voices, influence policy discussions, strengthen public awareness, and inspire continued action against child marriage while promoting climate resilience and gender equality.

To support this objective, YUWA,  in collaboration with Plan International Nepal,  intends to engage  a  qualified  consultancy firm to  produce six high-quality documentary films  (three  in Bardiya  and  three  in  Dhanusha)  based  on real case  stories generated through the  project. In addition to documentary production, the consultancy will develop accompanying Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and provide hands-on mentorship to a young filmmaker nominated by YUWA and Plan International Nepal. Through this mentor–mentee approach,  the  assignment aims  to  strengthen  the  capacity of emerging youth  filmmakers  by providing practical experience in documentary production, ethical storytelling, scripting, cinematography, editing, and post-production while ensuring that young people remain at the centre of documenting and communicating stories of resilience and social transformation.
