Introduction of Hami DajuVai:

Hami DajuVai (HDV) is a youth-led feminist organizations that envisions a gender-just society by transforming patriarchal norms into equality through intersectional approaches. By actively engaging men, boys, and young people while promoting women’s leadership, HDV works to dismantle patriarchal masculinity and structures. Our ultimate aim is to foster an inclusive and prosperous society where everyone can enjoy their rights, access equal opportunities, and live with dignity.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and harmful social norms that exacerbate gender disparity continue to undermine Nepal’s progress toward equality, safety, and dignity for all. Despite significant investments in progressive policies and laws, deeply rooted patriarchal traditions, entrenched beliefs, and structural inequalities allow these practices to persist, while fueling impunity, creating legal vacuums, and exposing regulatory failures.

The Security and Justice Programme, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), seeks to enhance public safety and strengthen citizens’ trust in state institutions. Within this broader initiative, People in Need (PIN) leads a component dedicated to community engagement in Madhesh Province, Nepal. As a strategic partner, Hami DajuVai (HDV) provides specialized technical support to mainstream male engagement across systems and strengthen governance at federal and provincial levels. It facilitates progressive policies while supporting their grassroots implementation. The project prioritizes ending GBV in all its forms, including child marriage, domestic abuse, rape, polygamy, online harassment, and other violations. Diffusion of advocacy messages is a central strategy to create public pressure, raise awareness, and build consensus for unified action toward this goal. A diffusion strategy has been formulated within the project to create ripple effects of awareness and attitude change, contributing to the overall goal of ending gender-based violence and harmful social norms. These key advocacy messages under the diffusion strategy are:

  • Valuing daughters as equals, not liabilities.
  • Delaying marriage creates more opportunities for girls.
  • Violence is not a sign of love.
  • Happy families and healthy relationships are built through respect and open communication.
  • The importance of reporting and sharing experiences of violence
