Position Summary:
Bighnaharta Nepal is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and skilled Project Associate to support our growing portfolio of community-based development and humanitarian projects. The role is based in Kathmandu, with regular field visits to project sites.
Eligibility Criteria (Required and Preferred):
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Crisis Management, or other related disciplines.
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in an NGO or development project implementation and coordination.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Nepali (spoken and written).
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and basic digital documentation tools.
- Basic understanding of project cycle management, grant compliance, monitoring & evaluation (M&E), and report writing.
- Ability to travel frequently to remote project locations, sometimes on short notice and in challenging conditions.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to community engagement and inclusion.
- Good time management skills and the ability to multitask under pressure.
- Knowledge and sensitivity towards gender, inclusion, and marginalized groups.
Preferred:
- Experience working with grassroots communities, local government institutions, or youth-led initiatives.
- Familiarity with emergency response, disaster risk reduction, or climate resilience projects.
- Basic understanding of budget tracking, procurement processes, or logistical coordination.
- Prior experience in writing case studies, newsletters, or managing project visibility and communications.
- Awareness of SDGs, global development frameworks, and humanitarian principles.
- Enthusiastic learner with a problem-solving attitude and teamwork spirit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of day-to-day project operations in alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
- Conduct regular field visits for community consultations, data collection, baseline/endline assessments, and to monitor project progress and challenges on the ground.
- Assist in the design and implementation of project activities that are community-centered, inclusive, and contextually relevant.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, meeting minutes, case studies, success stories, and visual documentation.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals, concept notes, budgets, and activity plans, in coordination with program and fundraising teams.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for organizing workshops, trainings, field missions, and community outreach programs.
- Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to track project indicators, verify field data, and generate meaningful insights for adaptive management.
- Support internal learning processes by capturing lessons learned, good practices, and innovative approaches from the field.
- Engage effectively with beneficiary communities, local governments, civil society organizations, and partner agencies to foster strong working relationships and ensure community participation and ownership.
- Assist in maintaining donor compliance, including collecting supporting documents, managing checklists, and coordinating with finance teams for timely reporting.
- Coordinate internal team meetings and contribute to team learning, knowledge-sharing, and peer support across departments.
- Maintain up-to-date project databases, contact lists, and other administrative records required for smooth project implementation.
- Represent Bighnaharta Nepal professionally in community events, local government meetings, and inter-agency coordination forums as assigned.
