Handicap International Federation (HI) is an independent and impartial aid organization, created in 1982, working across 63 countries. HI works alongside the vulnerable populations, whatever the context, taking action to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights. Present in Nepal since 2000, HI works through a network of local partner organizations in the area of health and physical rehabilitation, inclusive education and resilience including emergency response to improve the living conditions and involvement of the most vulnerable populations in Nepal. 

HI Nepal is a part of a South Asia Regional Programme where in the region, HI's interventions specifically include physical rehabilitation, inclusive education, inclusive disaster risk reduction, inclusive economic empowerment, local development, emergency response and so on. 

The HI Nepal programme invites applications from interested Nepal nationals for the following position for the emergency projects:

Position: Physiotherapist 

Project: Emergency

Location: Nuwakot/ Rasuwa, Nepal

Number of positions: 02 (1 for Rasuwa and 1 for Nuwakot)

Terms & Conditions: Fixed term contract  

Duration: As soon as possible- February 28, 2027

Overview: 

Under the supervision of the Project Officer and the technical supervision of the Regional Rehabilitation Technical Specialist, the Rehabilitation Officer provides physical and provides inpatient, and outpatient physical and functional rehabilitation services.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

Mission 1: Coordination & Case Management

• Coordinate closely with others teams, related actors/sectors to ensure a comprehensive and timely response.
• Support mapping of existing health and rehabilitation services and ensure effective referral and follow-up mechanisms.
• Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and feedback on referrals and services provided.
• Follow up on individual and family cases to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Work closely with rehabilitation assistants, volunteers, and accessibility staff to ensure quality service delivery.
• Uphold HI’s policies, ethics, confidentiality, safeguarding, and “Do No Harm” principles at all times.

Mission 2: Emergency Rehabilitation Implementation

• Provide physical and functional rehabilitation services to high-priority and critical cases in line with HI emergency guidelines.
• Conduct assessments, prioritization, treatment planning, and regular reassessment of beneficiaries.
• Deliver rehabilitation interventions aimed at optimal functioning and participation in daily life.
• Ensure beneficiary and caregiver engagement, safety, informed consent, and respect for refusal of treatment.
• Provide technical guidance and on-the-job support to rehabilitation assistants.

Mission 3: Assistive Devices & Equipment

• Identify, provide, and follow up on assistive devices and mobility aids based on assessed needs and HI standards.
• Ensure correct fitting, user training, follow-up, and quality control of devices.
• Support stock planning, equipment management, and coordination with the Technical specialist and Project Manager

Academic Qualification and Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy
• At least 3 years’ experience of working on the same thematic preferably in development and humanitarian context.

Additional Desirable Requirements:  

• Be registered with the local association.
• Experience working with HI will be given preference
• Previous I/NGO experience.
• Computer knowledge (MS office package).
• Able to work in harsh conditions.
• Good physical condition.
• The strong teamwork approaches.
• Knowledge of mental health, psychosocial support and development issues in Nepal
• Sensitized on the issues related to child protection, protection of gender-based violence, etc.
• Experienced in Humanitarian Context, preferably in the fields of mental health and inclusion.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary context.
• Applicable framework documents: to be defined.
