Okhaldhunga Community Hospital (OCH) is a 50-bed rural hospital located east of Kathmandu, about a day’s journey by vehicle. We provide a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services to the surrounding communities, including orthopaedics, obstetrics, general medicine, surgery, physiotherapy, paediatrics, gynaecology, dentistry, and primary care. We offer an appropriate range of investigative and therapeutic services, including a C-ARM. The hospital is also associated with a thriving Community Based Inclusive Development program for which the hospital provides inpatient rehabilitation services. The hospital also operates a 24-bed Maternity Waiting Home and Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre on site. The hospital is a referral centre for the district’s health posts, with referrals also coming from surrounding districts, comprising a service area of approximately 250,000 people. OCH frequently sees traumatic fractures, road traffic accidents, obstetric emergencies, and general medical and surgical cases. OCH announces the following job vacancy:
Position: Consultant in General Practice (MDGP-EM)
Required No: 2
Main Role: In conjunction with the Medical Coordinator and other senior doctors, maintain day-to-day responsibility for clinical activities in the hospital (including inpatient departments, the ER and outpatient department), including overnight call (with responsibility for C-sections), as well as teaching/mentoring of Medical Officers and allied health professionals in a culture of teamwork and respect.
Qualifications: Medical Post Graduate Degree in General Practice - Emergency Medicine (MDGP-EM or equivalent) from a recognised university with Nepal Medical Council specialty registration.
Preferred Experience: Newly graduated MDGP-EM qualified doctors are welcome to apply.
Grade Level 10 during the six-month probation period, with advancement to Grade Level 11 based on competence.
Salary and benefits are according to OCH standards.
The medical work at OCH is broad and diverse. Our maternity service delivers more than 50 babies per month and provides the full range of normal and operative deliveries. The management of emergency and trauma patients is a regular part of our work. We conduct regular internal continuing medical education and participation in teaching is expected. The hospital also hosts visiting national and international specialists from time to time who come to work with us for short periods. The MDGP consultant position is a senior position in our medical team, and a high level of professionalism is expected at all times.
