Shangri-La Development Association (SDA) is a non-government, not-for-profit organization established by Youths for community development in 2014 A.D. SDA has been making community interventions since the inception of the organization. To date, SDA has conducted Shangri-La Sustainable Local Initiative Project (SSLI, SSLI-I, SSLI-II, SSLI-III, SSLI-IV,), School Building Reconstruction and Education Support Project (SBRES), Shangri-La Reconstruction and Development Project (SRDP) and One Time Support Project (OTSP). All the other projects done were incorporated in such a way that it supports the SSLI project and strengthens the interventions.

Shangri-La Sustainable Local Initiative Project 5 (SSLI5) is a three-year project of the Shangri-La Association (SA), Switzerland / Govinda Association (GA), Germany, and SDA. The target project areas are Karnali Higher Secondary School, Anamnagar, Jumla, and Kailash Rural Municipality of Makwanpur district. SSLI primarily targets three wards of Kailash Rural Municipality in Makwanpur. Apart from these, 40 deaf children in Jumla are the targeted beneficiaries through Jumla Special Children Project (JSCP). These children come from all over Karnali Region as the school with the support of SDA has the best possible facilities and support.

Position: Communication Officer

Location: Lalitpur

Period of Employment: 1 year (with possibility of extension)

Gross Salary: NPR 40,000–45,000 per month

Reports to: Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

1. Social Media

  • Coordinate and communicate with the field and head office team to stay up-to-date on project activities and collect materials for regular social media posts and blogs.
  • Share regular updates on organization’s project activities on social media platforms, including post design and text content.
  • Write and share blog posts through the organization’s website on different project activities, notable achievements, and human’s interest stories based out of the project regions.
  • Ensure that the organization’s website and social media platforms are up-to-date and the content remains relevant.

2. Support and Documentation

  • In accordance with guidelines from supervisor and partner organizations, maintain a social media database including archives of all social media posts, communication materials like print materials (brochures, booklets), as well as other reference materials such as One-Pagers and news publications about the organization.
  • Support and assist the partner organizations in fundraising in an impactful way by collecting information and developing communication materials as and when requested.
  • Provide editorial support by reviewing reports and other written outputs as needed to ensure clarity, coherence, and high-quality communication

3. Policy and Branding Guideline Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to Branding Guidelines in the design of all communication materials including social media posts and other printing materials.
  • Guide and monitor the team to ensure compliance with the Social Media Policy’s.
  • Guide and monitor the team to ensure compliance with the Branding Guidelines in any outward-facing communication materials that may be independently developed by the team such as event banners.

4. Miscellaneous

  • Regular field visits to the project location in Kailash Rural Municipality, Makwanpur are expected to gather materials for social media content and maintain up-to-date information on ongoing project activities.
  • The Communication Officer is expected to develop a deep familiarity with SDA’s history, projects, and impacts in order to develop impactful and original content over time.
  • The Communication Officer may be required to organize virtual events for donor engagement in coordination with partner organizations.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience; 

OR

  • Master’s degree in a related field with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Strong skills in content creation, editing, and communication strategy.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media platforms.
  • Experience in event coordination and stakeholder engagement is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and teamwork abilities.
