Position Summary

The Sr. / Civil Structural Engineer supports residential, commercial, industrial, power infrastructure, and utility projects by contributing to the design and review of structural systems. The role includes engineering of steel structures, equipment supports, foundations, and related elements for substations, transmission lines, renewable energy, and utility facilities.

The position includes preparing and reviewing calculations and drawings, coordinating with project teams, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. The role supports project delivery in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

The successful candidate's role and compensation will be commensurate with their experience and qualifications, with opportunities for Lead or Senior positions for the candidates with extensive, relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Do structural analysis and design for substation structures, equipment supports, lightning masts, transmission poles, and related foundations.
  • Design steel, concrete, masonry, and wood elements based on U.S. codes like ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, IBC, NESC, and utility standards.
  • Create and maintain structural models using SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, RISA, or similar software.
  • Design shallow and deep foundations such as spread footings, drilled shafts, piles, and perform L-pile analysis when needed.
  • Prepare and review drawings in AutoCAD and Revit, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Check steel connections using RAM Connection, IDEA StatiCa, or manual calculations.
  • Review vendor and fabricator drawings and provide clear technical comments.
  • Work closely with Electrical, Civil, Architectural, and Protection & Control teams to solve design issues.
  • Support construction by answering RFIs, reviewing site photos, and checking as-built drawings.
  • Manage deadlines, project tasks, and keep all work organized.
  • Help mentor junior engineers and review their work.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 2–6 years of experience, with at least 2 years in substation or utility structural design.
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, or RISA.
  • Good understanding of steel structures, concrete foundations, and utility support structures.
  • Experience using U.S. codes (ASCE, AISC, ACI, IBC, NESC).
  • Good skills in AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel.
  • Ability to read vendor drawings, fabrication details, and site information.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Good organization, time management, and ability to handle multiple projects.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience working on substation, transmission, or distribution projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM 360, Tekla, or advanced modeling software.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings and fabrication details.
  • Familiarity with U.S. utility company design standards.
  • Applicants with advanced qualifications and greater experience will be prioritized and may be offered a senior role.
