Position: Biomedical Equipment Technician
Dept/Project: MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL)

Position Overview
MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL), funded by the U.S. Government, is a global mechanism that saves lives and improves access to quality, integrated health services by distributing life-saving commodities, medicines, and vaccines, and providing critical health care services for pregnant mothers and children under five. The project provides safe childbirth for mothers and babies, vaccinates children, treats deadly illnesses and malnutrition, and controls disease outbreaks.
With US Government’s investment, MCGL will continue its support to the Government of Nepal in averting life-threatening events to mothers and all newborns, especially Small and Sick New Borns (SSNBs), through strengthening Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) systems and comprehensive services for SSNBs.
The Biomedical Equipment Technician will support the MCGL Nepal project in strengthening the use, maintenance, and management of biomedical equipment in Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs). This role includes training and mentoring service providers on the safe and effective use of SNCU equipment, supporting routine and emergency repair and maintenance, and coordinating with provincial health teams to ensure equipment functionality and sustainability.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Technical and programmatic responsibilities
- Train and mentor nurses, doctors, and paramedics on the safe and effective use of biomedical equipment in SNCUs.
- Conduct regular assessments of equipment functionality and provide technical support for repair and maintenance.
- Coordinate with provincial health directorates, Provincial Health Logistic Management Centre and facility teams to ensure timely servicing and calibration of equipment.
- Support the development of SNCU equipment management protocols and maintenance schedules.
- Assist in the installation and setup of new biomedical devices and ensure proper documentation.
- Provide technical inputs during procurement and selection of biomedical equipment for SNCUs.
- Collaborate with government provincial biomedical and hospital management team to support smooth functioning of the biomedical equipment in MCGL-supported facilities
Quality improvement
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives related to equipment use and maintenance in SNCUs.
- Document equipment-related issues, solutions, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Support data collection and reporting on equipment functionality and usage.
- Collaborate with QI teams to integrate equipment performance indicators into monitoring systems.
Additional responsibilities
- Ensure MCGL branding guidelines are correctly used by program
- Represent MCGL at national and provincial level, as and when required
- Update the donor,government counterparts, and related stakeholders aboutproject-supported results, progress, challenges and overall achievements
- Perform or assume other MCGL activities as required and as assigned by the Supervisor to ensure the smooth functioning of the project to achieve the approved project results
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma in Biomedical Equipment Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in biomedical equipment management, preferably in healthcare or development settings.
- Experience in training and mentoring health workers on equipment use and maintenance.
- Familiarity with SNCU equipment and neonatal care technologies is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
- Good and clear communication skills both oral and written
- Willing and able to be based, and travel (at least 70%) to project/program areas
