Fellowship Description

Position Title: Youth innovators

Title of the Project: YOUTH LEAD (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Development)

Required Number of Youths: 10

Location: Province 3

Stipend: Rs. 3500 per month

Duration: 10 months (June 2021 – March 2022)

Context 

Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered not for profit, purely youth-run and led organization working to promote youth network through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA was born out of a group of committed youths, working in this sector since 2009. The initial focus was to develop leadership skills of the involved youths, to train as youth activists, and to advocate for change, thus resulting in a wide and diverse array of knowledge, skills, and experience in this sector. It led to the realization of the seriousness of youth issues and the need to act, which finally took the shape of YUWA. YUWA works in three different thematic areas, they are Active Citizenship, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Research Units (Centre for Youth Studies and Centre for Gender and Sexuality Studies).

Project Description

YUWA is implementing the project “Youth Lead (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Development)” in collaboration with Khmer Youth Association (KYA), Cambodia funded by Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation, Norway. This project is focused on youth, education, and engage youth network for positive social change. Moreover, the project will create a space for the participants who are young and to learn problem solving skills through devising innovative ideas. In particular, the project will provide the opportunity for youths aged 18 -25 years old to share ideas and experience of the environment, diverse cultural, gender equality, and cross-cutting issues in their society.

The Youth innovators (10-month Contract) is a fellowship position for the youths who are interested to work on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Gender-based Violence and Climate Change issues. Youth innovators (currently residing at Province 3) are primarily responsible for carrying out field activities designed by themselves. Youth innovators will develop the action plan by analyzing their community social environment related to SRHR, Gender Violence and Climate change after receiving design thinking Course accordingly. Selected projects will also be offered with small amount of seed money besides the regular stipend, after which they will implement the action plan in their respective communities. 

Skills and Qualifications

Required Education, Experience and Competencies

  • Completion of Intermediate Level in any faculty  
  • Youth between 18-25 years who is currently residing at Province 3. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person to different stakeholders, team members, mentors for conducting any activities or extracting any information.
  • Must have explicit writing skills in both Nepali and English language for preparing reports.
  • Having sound knowledge of videography and photography is an added benefit.
  • Young, energetic, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with the passion to work in any condition.
  • Experience working in a youthful, multicultural environment.
  • A strong personal commitment to the values, aims and methods of YUWA. 
  • A strong time commitment of minimum 10 hours a week.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participants should attend full training on Digital Marketing, Financial Literacy, Digital Accessibility, climate change and SRHR (Sexual Reproductive Health and Right)
  • Participants must attend the human centered design thinking course of one and half month to help the participants derive their actions against any community problem relevant to the theme through a human-centered approach to innovation—anchored in understanding community needs, prototyping, and generating creative ideas—that will transform the way one develops their solution.
  • Create social media content for SRHR and climate change issues and participate in day celebrations along with YUWA.
  • Creating and implementing innovative Action plan to solve community problems based on the given themes. The action plan and intended actions will be designed by the fellows themselves with the help of learning from design thinking methodology and the process of implementation will be facilitated by regular mentoring with the experts.
  • Participants will write monthly blogs on above mentioned topics.
  • Submit monthly activities report and update to Project Coordinator.

  • What interests you to be a part of this program?
  • What is your experience of working in the theme of interest?
  • What problems and workable solutions can you offer to the interested themes from your individual levels?
