Vacancy Announcement for Short Term Assignment

FHI 360, an international NGO, requests applications from the qualified individuals for working as short- term and long-term consultants for an anticipated COVID-19 Emergency Response under Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) Nepal with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in coordination with Ministry of Health Population (MoHP). The period for this assignment is from May to October 2021 with possibility of extension. These positions are subject to approval of COVID-19 Emergency Response Plan and availability of funding.

In addition to the specific qualifications and requirements outlined below in each position, prospective candidates in all positions should have ability to perform multiple tasks, and to work under pressure with additional time and efforts in emergency/crisis situation independently and proactively.

Qualifications and requirements

Microbiologist-7 (to be stationed in each provinces)

  • Plan laboratory activities for efficient and optimal service delivery
  • Engage in conducting and improvement of Laboratory process for COVID-19 diagnosis (PCR, gene expert etc.)
  • Provide training to health care workers (HCW) on COVID-19 diagnostics and result interpretation
  • Planning and designing of new or upgrading existing facilities
  • Perform COVID-19 testing and reporting
  • Support validation work related to PCR
  • Maintain documentation related to COVID-19 testing
  • Supervise medical laboratory technologists and technicians for COVID-19 testing activities
  • Master’s degree (MSc/MD) in Microbiology
  • Expertise in nucleic acid extraction and Real Time (RT) PCR
  • Operation of automated RNA/DNA extraction system
  • Independent handling of the microbiology laboratory
  • Good knowledge of bio risk analysis and risk assessment in the laboratory
  • Experience in implementation of laboratory quality management system in the molecular laboratory.
  • Experience in COVID-19 PCR lab would be an advantage

Medical Laboratory Technologist-7 (to be stationed in each provinces)

  • Specimen processing as per defined SOPs
  • Storage of samples to maintain the integrity
  • Perform laboratory testing as per SOPs and reporting
  • Manage laboratory documents related to COVID-19 diagnostics
  • Support in validation work related to PCR testing: kit/equipment validation
  • BSc in Medical Laboratory technology, registered in NHPC
  • Prior experience in manual nucleic acid extraction and Real-time PCR
  • Experience in COVID-19 PCR lab would be an advantage

Medical Laboratory Technician-7 (to be stationed in each provinces)

  • Perform various microbiology tests used in COVID-19 diagnosis
  • Engage in sample collection, storage and recording/reporting lab test results
  • Support in sample storage to maintain integrity and disposal of old samples
  • Adherence to laboratory standards and QC
  • Support in laboratory activities for sample processing, sample management, nucleic acid extraction and documentation
  • Diploma/Certificate level in medical laboratory technology registered in NHPC
  • Experience in hazardous sample handling and support on molecular lab

Biomedical Engineer-7 (to be stationed in each provinces)

  • Coordinate with site and vendor to ensure the equipment are functioning well and calibrated
  • Provide technical support and/or coordinate with vendor for maintenance of equipment (as required)
  • Support sites to maintain the equipment inventory, maintenance log, usage log and related technical checklist for equipment.
  • Install, repair and maintenance of the COVID-19 related bio-medical equipment and prepare related documentations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineer and experience in relevant sector.
  • Experience of working/repairing/maintenance of laboratory equipment including laboratory and hospital/clinical equipment.
  • Experience on technical specification preparation for equipment and basic maintenance

Microbiologist/Molecular Biologist for genome sequencing- 1

  • Ensure adherence to the SOPs/protocols on genomic sequencing in the unit.
  • Accept and prepare DNA/ RNA samples for sequencing library
  • Operate the DNA sequencers as per SOP/protocols
  • Record, analyses and submit collected data to the Unit In charge
  • Perform genome sequencing
  • Carry out routine cleaning and maintenance of sequencers and tools within the sequencing facility
  • Master’s degree in Microbiology/Molecular biology
  • Experience on molecular testing including RT -PCR, automated DNA/RNA extraction system
  • Experience in implementation of Laboratory quality management system in the molecular laboratory
  • Exposure on genomic sequencing would be of advantage
  • Prior work experience in COVID-19 laboratory would be an advantage

Medical Technologist for genome sequencing -1


  • Process samples for genome sequencing
  • Support to Molecular biologist/Microbiologist in carrying out routine activities related to genomic sequencing.
  • Support to manage recording/ storage of samples received for genomic sequencing
  • Laboratory data recording/management
  • Master’s/ Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, registered in NHPC
  • Prior experience in working in molecular testing laboratory
  • Experience in COVID-19 PCR lab would be an advantage

Bioinformatics Specialist for genome sequencing - 1

  • Analyze data from genome sequencing
  • Obtain results and interpret
  • Prepare phylogenetic tree and study mutations and variants
  • Create own sequence database
  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics and previous experience in gene sequencing/analyzing the sequence

Critical Care Nurse - 4

  • Conduct regular supervision and monitoring of the optimum use of the items
  • To coordinate for regular clinical activities
  • To support in organizing of ECCT and IPC trainings
  • BN/BSC Nursing with 2 years of experience or PCL Nursing with 4 years of experience or CMA with 6 years of experience
  • Working experience is needed in Intensive care unit or Operating theater or Emergency unit with relevant trainings

Clinical/Lab Infection Prevention and Control/Biosafety and Security (IPC/BSS) Expert (hospital ICU/molecular lab) -2

  • Prepare/develop the orientation and training package.
  • Prepare the documents/guidelines on IPC/BSS related to COVID-19 response.
  • Prepare booklets/posters or educational materials to response COVID-19 for hospitals/lab Coordinate with stakeholders (GON, hospitals and other stakeholders supporting on COVID- 19 response)
  • Conduct supportive monitoring at sites and provide on-site coaching to sites/hospitals/labs to improve the IPC/BSS practices Conduct and facilitate trainings/orientation for different level of healthcare workers
  • Provide technical inputs/suggestions to the team to strengthen the IPC/BSS
  • Masters or PhD or MD in microbiology/clinical science/lab science/molecular biology and experience of working/supporting on molecular lab/ICU or hospital/lab on IPC/BSS related activities.
  • Experience in working/supporting on BSS/IPC/health care waste management (HCWM)
  • Previous experience in preparing the IPC/BSS or related documents
  • Competent skill and knowledge on IPC/BSS

IPC/BSS trainer/documentation support (Microbiologist/Lab Specialist/Nursing Officer or related with IPC/BSS experience) - 3

  • Support to conduct orientation/training on IPC/BSS for different cadre of healthcare workers and facilitate the sessions.
  • Support on documentation on IPC/BSS related activities for hospitals/labs
  • Master’s or MD in Microbiology, Lab science, Nursing, Public health and experience in IPC/BSS and training conduction.
  • Experience and competent skill and knowledge on IPC/BSS practices

Procurement and Supply Chain Management– 1

  • Market survey for identifying possible vendors.
  • Assist in preparing documents for procurement packages.
  • Follow-up with vendors for timely delivery of goods
  • Assist in preparation of documents related to waivers, custom duties and support in custom clearance.
  • Assist in supply of procured goods and monitor the delivery/ installation of the supplies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Management or other health related subjects.
  • Good knowledge on procurement and supply chain, preferably health products, is desirable.
  • Knowledge on custom clearance activities is preferred.
