ADRA Nepal and Forum for Rural Welfare and Agricultural Reform for Development (FORWARD Nepal) are jointly implementing a project entitled: "Enhanced Rural AI (TERAI) Project for smallholder Dairy Farmers in Nepal" with Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA) funding for 4 years. The project activities at the district and municipality level will be carried out by local partner

The project is starting very soon and FORWARD Nepal is announcing this vacancy for Livestock Development Specialist. Therefore, applications are invited from interested Nepali citizens who meets the following selection criteria and are comfortable to work with the TOR mentioned as below:

Terms of Reference Livestock Development Specialist

Duty station: Butwal with intensive visit at Kapilvastu and Rupendehi district 

The Key education, skill, experience, and responsibilities of Livestock Expert/Animal Health Specialist: 

1. Education: Master’s degree in veterinary science (Preferred).
2. Skill required: (a) Strong skills on Embryo transfer, sexed semen AI, milk and milk product collection and marketing, dairy cooperative formation, capacity development and management, (b) strong skill on animal husbandry cattle health, breed, feed and shed management.
3. Working Experiences: At least three-year working experience in Dairy development sector including sexed semen AI and Embryo transfer technology. 
4. Candidate must be fluent  in English and Nepali languages (reading, writing and speaking)
5. Responsibility: 

Key Technical responsibilities 

• Provide technical support on breed improvement, feed and forage management, animal health and husbandry, milk and dairy product diversification, and capacity building of (Local project partner (IRDC). 
• Particularly this position will support module development for farmer field schools in feed, shed, health and housing management including design and estimate, prepare guidelines for demonstration farm for fodder and forage management.  
• Preparation of training guidelines and manual on embryo transfer technology, heat detection techniques, artificial insemination, safe and hygienic milk collection, storage and processing, collection center and markets management.
• Provide Technical guidance on AI kits, utensil, and fodder and forage seed and saplings procurement, collection center construction, operation, and market Center tools and equipment.
• Capacity building of Local implementing partner on dairy related project.
• Support Local Government for Policy preparation and implementation of joint initiatives on Dairy for development. 
• Support for the coordination and collaboration with Department of Livestock Services, National Livestock Breeding Office-Pokhara, Nepal Agriculture Research council and National Cattle Research Center, Agriculture and Forestry University . 
• Data based management and analysis.
• Periodic project progress preparation and reporting.
• Documentation of good practices and lesson learnt
