Background

The Story Kitchen (TSK) is a not for profit distributing company registered in September 2012 under the Companies Act, 2006 Nepal. We envision a society, where every woman's voice is heard, her existence is accepted, her work is accounted, and her contribution is valued. Our mission is to create a safe space for her stories and amplify the experiences of women in our history. We are driven by the passionate belief that sharing and listening to the stories of women can build the movement and it helps to ignite social change. In short, TSK is a space to amplify Herstory.

If you are willing to be part of this passionate and exciting work, TSK invites you to apply for the position of Sub-Editor. Below are the Terms of Reference for this position:

A)   Major Responsibilities

In close coordination with and strategic guidance from the Editor, the Sub-Editor will lead the overall content design,delivery and writing process. The following are the major responsibilities of the Sub-Editor:

  • Planning and publishing the content for The Story Kitchen’s journalistic platform. 
  • Collaborate with editor, designers and writers to plan and assign stories, photos and graphics 
  • Coordinate, assign and work closely with the reporters and writers contributing to the journalistic platform
  • Ensure all the content are according to TSK’s editorial policy
  • Coordinate with the advisors and organize advisory meetings.
  • Support the Editor to coordinate and organize weekly editorial meetings.
  • Lead the curation of the content for publishing purpose.
  • Conduct interviews, conduct research, write stories and articles for the platform.
  • Produce audio podcasts for the platform
  • Coordinate with the interviewees for the production of video content and provide 

B)   Required qualifications, knowledge and experience: 

The applicant must have:

  • A minimum of Masters’ Degree in Journalism/ Sociology/Gender Studies/ Anthropology or any other related faculty with at least five years of work experience in journalism OR a bachelor’s degree (same faculty as above) with seven years of work experience in the in journalism.
  • High level knowledge and skills of Audio/ radio program production.
  • Experience in Investigative journalism/ investigative reporting.
  • Good track record of reporting on the women’s rights, minority and marginalized’s rights in Nepal.
  • Good knowledge of women’s rights movement and other intersectional movements in Nepal.
  • Experience of working in online based journalism platforms. Experience of working in video production will have added value.
  • Good command of Nepali language (written and spoken). Knowledge of other languages of Nepal is an added value.
  • Good knowledge and skills for research, analysis and writing.
  • In-depth understanding of the challenges Nepalese women face and the creative vision to address these challenges effectively. 
  • Readiness to perform the field-based work.
  • Good computer skills including using MS Office with Nepali typing.
