Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading organizations in the psychosocial and mental health field. It was established in 2005 with the aim of promoting the psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Currently, the organization is implementing a project- "Health Action in ScHools for a Thriving Adolescent Generation (HASHTAG)” funded by UK Medical Research Council (MRC). HASHTAG aims to address the gap in evidence by developing and adapting a multilevel, multi-component gender-sensitive intervention targeting a range of negative mental and physical health outcomes by promoting positive mental health; preventing mental disorders (specifically, depression and anxiety); and preventing a range of risk behaviors (substance use, violence, problem sexual behaviors) among at-risk adolescents. HASHTAG will be implemented in the Morang district.

TPO Nepal is seeking a competent, committed and result oriented candidate for the following position.

Position: Research/Project Coordinator

Location: Kathmandu (Frequent travel to project district)

Duration: Two years (April 2020 to March 2022)

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee implementation of the HASHTAG research project in the selected Municipalities/Village Municipalities of Morang district.
  2. Assist in planning, designing and implementing research and intervention related activities of the project.
  3. Supervise research activities including recruitment of study participants, trainings of RAs, coordination of consent during assessments, meetings with participants and their family members.
  4. Coordinate with Municipalities/Village Municipalities and other relevant district level stakeholders for effective implementation of the project.
  5. Proactively seek amendments to improve project activities, work closely with the PI and other team members to assure that the research activities run as planned.
  6. Coordinate with the clinical team to manage implementation of the program in the selected schools.
  7. Assure ethical compliance with the Nepal Health Research Council and programmatic compliance with the Social Welfare Council.
  8. Attend frequent field visits to ensure the quality of data collection.
  9. Participate in data analysis (particularly qualitative data analysis), academic publication writing and conference presentations.
  10. Provide project activity reports to the principal investigator regularly.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Master’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Population Health, Anthropology, Global health, or related field.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in research especially in mixed methods research (qualitative and quantitative research) and familiarity with quantitative mental health research tools.
  3. Willing to work in multicultural environment.
  4. Good command on both written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
  5. Able to be actively mobilized in the field by driving scooter, motorbike or other vehicles.
  6. Preference will be given to candidates having work experiences in development and implementation of school-based psychological interventions.
