Project Name: USAID/Feed the Future Nepal Integrated Pest Management
Implementing Partners: Virginia Tech (Prime), Nepal Agriculture Research Council NARC (NERC and NMRP), and iDE Nepal
Collaborative Partners: Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) and Far-Western University (FWU)
Position: Research Consultant
Number: Two (1 at AFU Rampur, Chitwan, 1 at FWU Tikapur, Kailali)
The project duration for the position: November 2022 to October 2023
Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Far-Western University (FWU), and IDE Nepal are jointly involved in a one-year research project to identify, multiply and field application of potential biological control agents of Fall armyworm in Nepal. Research Assistants (RAs) will be hired to assist the technical management team under the technical supervision of university focal persons. Further, RAs will be involved in preparing and developing protocol as per the research objectives, keeping day-by-day lab records, managing field visits, setting field trials, supporting student research, data collection, and other varieties of duties guided by the management and research team.
Major roles and responsibilities
- Prepare and set up required lab equipment for upcoming research experiments
- Maintain laboratory equipment and chemicals
- Plan and manage regular monitoring of the field
- Assist in student research
- Prepare for the field research
- Laboratory and field data collections
- Regular monitoring of the ongoing field and lab experiments
- Data collection, data verification, and analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and other research reports, presentations, and communication skills with good spoken and written English and Nepali.
- Other activities assigned by the technical supervisors
Skill and qualifications
- Familiar with the biological control-based laboratory and fieldwork
- Skills in natural enemies collection and preservation
- Skills in laboratory and field research design and implementation
- Proper Verbal and written communication skills
- Data collection, analysis, and relevant interpretation skills
- Good teamwork and a strong commitment to work.
- Good command of computer application
- Minimum Bachelor in Agriculture (BSc. Ag)
- Ability to keep day-by-day field records
Selection criteria
- Academic qualification and work experience in the agriculture field
- Lab handling skills
- Verbal skills and applicant’s commitment
Benefits
iDE Nepal offers a monthly service rate of NPR 35, 000 including transportation allowance, tax will be applicable as per the Government rules and regulations.
