TERM OF REFERENCE 

Position: Research Assistant (Water Resource)

Gross Salary: Attractive package reflecting competencies and experience.

Working Days: 5 days a week (Mon-Friday, 900am to 530pm)

Contract: Long Term 

Location: Maharajgunj, Kathmandu (Central Office)

Reporting to: Kathmandu Valley Water Resource Management Initiative (KVWRMI) Secretariat

Scott Wilson Nepal is seeking a proactive individual to join our team as a Research Assistant. As an aspirant for this position, you will provide support to the KVWRMI to support and assist the objectives of the initiative within the organisation.

Kathmandu Valley Water Resource Management Initiative (KVWRMI) is a proposed integrated project to “enhance community, local and valley urban climate change resilience and sustainability to water access diminishment, caused by floods and droughts, domestic and commercial development and various counts of mismanagement, through ignorance, lack of expertise or conflicting interests, potentially adversely affecting the long-term City and Valley water resources for Kathmandu with dire consequences.” This holistic initiative identifies and will develop strategy for multiple core elements contributing to Kathmandu Valley sustainable water resource management and environmental resilience.

Detailed Job descriptions and job requirements 

  • Source, collect and collate of relevant KVWRMI policy documents, identifying sources and directive agencies, research papers, publications, data, projects and proposals,

  • Assist generation and update of a library matrix system for all data documents with cross references capabilities and map matrix presentation to clusters

  • Assist with development of the valley mapping matrix 2D model and interactive 3D model

  • Source and collate photos and references in social or main media of relevant location news

  • Assist Secretariat with meetings and workshops set up and run document preparations as necessary

  • Assist in content generation of website for KVWRMI with social media access and communication systems
  • Demonstrate initiative and commitment to KVWRMI 

Skilled Required: 

  • University Degree preferably in environmental studies or integrated water resources management or engineering,  or related hydrological fields

  • At least 1 year of experience in water resource management, data analysis and management and research writing

  • Ability to plan and establish priorities, meet deadlines and initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision

  • Sound Information Technology (IT) knowledge and use of collaborative tools like Google workspace,

  • Sound in ArcGIS, QGIS, SPSS, etc.

  • Excellent in written and oral communication in both English and Nepali languages
  • Positive attitude and a good sense of humor. 

Other Considerations: 

  • The driving license of a two-wheeler

  • Available for interview week commencing 17th August 2022 (video conference if necessary)
