Rural Education and Environment Development Center (REED Nepal) was founded in 2000 AD with an aim to improve the quality of education in the community Schools of Nepal. Currently, we are working in 23 districts across Nepal to enhance the quality education and environment in right based approaches and protect children/girls from all forms of abuses, sexual exploitation, including trafficking, and so on. It has recently started to expand it sectorial and regional areas of operation focusing on Education, School Constructions, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Management. REED initiated its activities targeting the Himalayan regions of Nepal but has started working in Terai region as well. REED Nepal announces Vacancy for the following positions for the upcoming project on Environment with the focus on Climate Change Adaptation, DRR, and livelihood   based on Sindhupalchok and Solukhumbu.

Project Coordinator, Environment Project - 1 Position

Purpose: Provide technical and managerial leadership for Environment Project. The position is equivalent to Project Coordinator, will ensure on identifying root causes of environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood problems and assess potential risks in the organization. Conduct required environmental observations, tests and analysis in order to reach conclusions. Design innovative ideas and solutions that are feasible in the given context to improve the environmental practices in the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the project implementation planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of project’s activities. 
  2. Support human resource planning and mobilize team for project implementation.
  3. Lead efficient utilization of the available financial resources, track expenses and ensure value for money.
  4. Design, validate and roll out Teacher Training Packages on environment protection, natural resource management, sustainable development, Climate Change Adaptation, DRR with Vulnerability assessment, and livelihood.
  5. Ensure partnership contracts, MOU are on track, terms and conditions of contracts are strictly adhered, project objectives within the specified project timeframe of implementation.
  6. Ensure effective coordination and networking with provincial and local governments.
  7. Work with cross-functional teams to implement solutions, ensure environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood management and perform regular site inspections for monitoring. 
  8. Coordinate with different partner organizations or companies that are involved with the study of environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood practices as well as in the implementation of solutions. 
  9. Reporting of the implemented activities in the field with regular communication. 
  10. Provide assistance to the team and organize sharing meeting with the team to build necessary digital and print content for awareness campaigns. 
  11. Stay updated with new developments in environment and climate change and adaptation policies and regulations, as well as in new technologies and solutions related to the projects.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science/Environment Education, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Sustainable Development, Environmental Management or related field (Preference will be given to Master Degree). 
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a similar position in a program of similar magnitude and complexity is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali 
  • Report Writing 
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Proficiency in any other creative computer tools is a plus.

Skills - Social skills: 

  • Sensitivity to interact with people from different cultures. 
  • Team player: Able to work with a team of 3-4 people. 
  • Analytical Skills: Able to work with data from different sources, and draw logical and meaningful conclusions. 
  • Ability to multitask and monitor several projects on a daily basis. 
  • Being proactive and willing to take initiative.

Environment Field Officer, Environment Project - 1 Position

Purpose: Support Project Coordinator in effective and efficient implementation of the project activities in project districts to ensure identification of root causes of environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood problems and assess potential risks in the organization. Assisting the Project Coordinator in project planning, implementation, Mentoring and follow-up support. Coordination at field and ground set up for conducting required environmental observations, tests and analysis in order to reach conclusions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Project Coordinator in project implementation planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of project’s activities. 
  2. Coordinating and conducting any on-site support to teachers that needs to be implemented in the school.
  3. Coordinating with School Management Committee, Parents Teachers Association and head teacher to develop and update SIP (School Improvement Plan) to ensure environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood management and perform regular site inspections for monitoring. 
  4. Support to roll out Teacher Training Packages on environment protection, natural resource management, sustainable development, Climate Change Adaptation, DRR and livelihood.
  5. Document and record the partnership contracts, MOU and ToR are strictly adhered. 
  6. Ensure effective coordination and networking with local level governments, Schools, Community Members, and Forest User Groups. 
  7. Support to report of the implemented activities in the field with regular communication
  8. Work with cross-functional teams, Palika/Municipality level staff to implement solutions, ensure environmental, climate change adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Livelihood management and perform regular site inspections for monitoring.

Qualification and Skills:
