Women Welfare Service (WWS)-Humla, Karnali

Outline of the Responsibilities

Women Welfare Service (WWS) is women-led local NGOs established in 1993 with the aim to work for the community development in Karnali. It is non-governmental and non-for-profit organization that includes in its staff and executive management members from marginalized, ethnic minorities and Dalit communities.  It is also affiliated with Social Welfare Council. The main objective of WWS is to empower the most marginalized women of Karnali with focusing on economic empowerment, livelihood improvement, and engagement in advocacy. The main vision is to create self-reliant and prosperous communities in the districts of the Karnali. 

WWS implemented more than 30 projects to address extreme poverty, violence against women and, their empowerment. The projects implemented by WWS have: promoted and protected women’s rights; enhanced their economic and livelihood status, assisted in organizing and mobilising women & other marginalized groups; operated literacy classes for women; created income generations opportunities for women and their families, supported to development of infrastructure in remote villages of Karnali. 

WWS has been implementing "Empowering Women through Economic Transformation" project in Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla Districts, Karnali Province. This project is implementing in partnership with Mission East and financial support of CKU with the aim to promote economic empowerment of the most marginalised women in Humla through sustainable livelihoods. 

Job Title:  Project Coordinator 

Duty Station:  Sarkegad Rural Municipality- Humla with frequent field visit in 8 wards 

Reports to:  Executive Director

Contract Period: 24 months

Specific responsibility: 

The overall responsibility of the position is to ensure that, a project runs smoothly to deliver the major goals of the project. The main task includes to make a comprehensive action plan, coordination with partner, CSOs, beneficiaries and target groups, collaboration with stakeholders, monitoring, reporting, and leading and capacity building of the project team. On top of that, the position ensuring the quality results. 

Details of the Responsibilities:

  • Prepares project plan (DIP and BF), manuals, guidelines, reports (progress, monitoring, event, etc) and documentation
  • Assist the Executive Director to implement the project and to design the new projects
  • Make a day-to-day schedule and support project staff to implement the project activity
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local government and stakeholders
  • Coordinate with funding agencies ensure to efficient and effective implementation of the project 
  • Collect and analyses risk and opportunities for all staffs
  • Provide support to administrative and financial team
  • Make a procurement plan as per necessary
  • Prepare monitoring plan and lead the monitoring process of the project an ensure quality results
  • Collect case story and lesson learnt from field
  • Prepare periodic reports (monthly, quarterly and yearly progress), event monitoring reports, maintain beneficiary data base

Education and Experiences:

  • Must have Bachelor Degree in agriculture, development study, economics, project management, or other relevant subjects
  • At least 4 years professional experience for Bachelor and 2 years for master's degree in the field of livelihood development focusing on climate change, income generation, agriculture, cooperative management, and women’s economic empowerment
  • Knowledge on climate and environment crisis and gender equality and social inclusion would be asset

Key Competencies: 

  • Interpersonal, communication and coordination skills to organize the office and events
  • Strong leadership, team management skills to track the project implementation, and able to work in pressure
  • Skill to prepare organization documents including reports, guidelines, schedules, work plan, and procurement plan etc
  • Demonstrated capacity to prepare professional reports and presentation to inform the project implementation team
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to reduce the barriers in project cycles 
  • Competent computer skills on word, excel, power point presentation and email/internet
  • Fluent in English and Nepali (oral and written)

Job Title:  Business Development Officer

Specific responsibility: 

Business Development Officer will manage to implement activities of project related to livelihood (enterprise development, capacity building, financial and cooperative management) and empowerment of women coordinating with stake holders, CSO's and other local government organizations. The overall aim of this role is implementing the activities to boost agri-business and entrepreneurial capacities of most marginalized women, members of cooperative of Humla. He or she needs to facilitate to establish linkage between buyers and sellers, and strengthen value chain system.

Details of the Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to data and information for designing similar project. 
  • Prepare relevant strategic/planning documents, linked to research and need assessments on small enterprise/business development
  • Conduct a detail market system analysis assessment (market actors & value chain)
  • Lead the women groups to design market research plans to identify the business opportunities
  • Support women to make business plan to run agriculture-based enterprises 
  • Develop training guidelines and facilitate trainings on enterprise development, vocation skills, income generation activities,   financial literacy etc. 
  • Conduct sessions on financial education and loan disbursement procedure
  • Support women group to connect with external market for farm-based entrepreneurship
  • Prepare manual and lead to operate women enterprise field schools
  • Plan and support to dialogues among entrepreneurs, stake holders and others on women enterprise
  • Coordinate to support women to get grant from rural municipality for farm-based women entrepreneur's scheme in potential area
  • Coordinate with RM to support women to ensure insurance of agro business (crop and livestock) and access to market
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of the project and ensure quality results regarding effectiveness of market linkage and value chain system and functionality of Agri-marketing cooperatives 
  • Prepare activities based monthly reporting and assist to prepare report to project coordinator 

Requirements:

  • Must have Bachelor Degree in agriculture, development study, economics, project management, cooperative and enterprise development or other relevant subjects
  • At least 3 years professional experience for Bachelor and 1 years for master's degree in the field of livelihood development focusing on climate change, income generation, agriculture, cooperative management, and women’s economic empowerment supporting to develop the business plan
  • Knowledge on market system, business planning, and value chain system
  • Working experiences on GESI component would be an asset

  • Competent computer skills on word, excel, power point presentation and email/internet
  • Fluent in English and Nepali (oral and written)
