Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP)

Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) is a national network of peace and human rights non-governmental organizations in Nepal. It started as a loose, informal forum in June 2001 and was registered with the government of Nepal as a nonprofit and non-political network in December 2002. Currently, COCAP has 43 member organizations. It has a secretariat in each of the provinces. It has a large number of volunteers who actively involve themselves in the various aspects of its works. COCAP aims to provide a common space for its members, volunteers and friends to collectively engage in the pursuit of peace, human rights and justice in Nepal. It organizes national/provincial level campaigns and programs on the issues of conflict transformation and peace building, transitional justice and social security/protection in coordination with its member organizations and other like-minded organizations.

Details / requirements:

Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) is recruiting following positions for its Nepal Monitor Project. NepalMonitor.org is a COCAP protection and conflict prevention initiative, supported by Peace Brigades International (PBI) Germany. 

Position: Program Officer

Duty Station: Kathmandu

Contract Type: Fixed until December 2021, with possibility of extension 

Salary: Rs 45,000 per month

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing regular analytical reports based on the Nepal Monitor dataset and additional research. 
  • Prepare thematic reports, briefs and blog entries on violence, conflict, human rights, threats to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and related fields in Nepal.
  • Presentation and dissemination of reports
  • Assist in organizing and presenting findings in stakeholder meetings attended by civil society, government, donors and representatives of the international community 
  • Conduct research on relevant topics
  • Closely follow political dynamics and trends related to peace, conflict and human rights in Nepal
  • Assist in further conceptual development of the project
  • Support in mapping, coding and translating reports on the NepalMonitor.org platform
  • Review national online media and national dailies to check for relevant reports
  • Assist in organizing and implementing trainings, workshops and seminars
  • Conduct regular analysis of Nepal Monitor’s data and develop graphs, charts and maps for different reports
  • Do other works as per necessity

Your profile

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in social science, journalism or other relevant fields and at least 3 years of work experience in relevant field(s)
  • You are interested in conflict analysis, violence monitoring, and human rights and have experience in empirical research in these areas 
  • You have experience in drafting and editing evidence-based reports and advocacy materials with practical recommendations
  • You have experience in Data Analysis and Visualization using tools like SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Infogram
  • You have experience in conducting robust qualitative and quantitative research and are knowledgeable in a range of methodologies for doing this
  • You have good organisational skills and ideally some experience in conducting workshops & trainings
  • You have an excellent understanding of Nepal’s socio-political dynamics
  • You have excellent English and Nepali skills in speaking, reading and writing
  • You are able to type in Nepali using Preeti and/or Unicode.
  • You have excellent oral presentation, communication and networking skills and inter-personal ability
  • You enjoy to work as part of a team
  • You are a citizen of Nepal 

Position: Mapping Assistant

Duty Station: Kathmandu

Contract Type: Fixed until December 2021, with possibility of extension 

Salary: Rs 25,000 per month

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review local newspapers sent from the field to check if relevant reports have been mapped
  • Map reports – This will entail uploading reports to an online database, coding reports according to a monitoring guideline and translating reports from Nepali to English
  • Maintain records of newspapers and file them in proper folders
  • Assist in monthly collation of data-set

Your profile:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree/ running in journalism, social science or other relevant fields and at least 1 year of work experience in relevant field(s)
  • You have excellent English and Nepali writing skill
  • You are interested in conflict analysis, violence monitoring, and human rights
  • You are familiar with Unicode Nepali text input
  • You are detail-oriented
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy to work as part of a team
