Position Summary 

Program Assistant:- KVSS is looking for a qualified & enthusiastic person to provide support to families suffering from a different problem with identified child protection, child care practices & parent-child issues through the Family Development Program (FDP). Fluency in Nepali & English is required. This role requires a desire to learn and offers exciting growth opportunities. This is a full-time position & strong candidates will play a long term role in Kopila Valley.

Required skills: 

  • Working experience in rural/urban poor areas with deprived population and/or dysfunctional families.
  • Especially working in the field of Community mobilization is valued.
  • Strong interest/motivation to work in rural poor areas.
  • Strong interest for social work and fieldwork with communities.
  • Good social abilities, good capacity to communicate and adapt.
  • Sense of confidentiality.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and new approach.
  • Two wheeler driving skill with valid driving license is compulsory.  
  • Skills, including experience using MS word, word-processing and e-mail.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience and/or qualification in psycho social counseling.
  • Experience of work in the community with children and family.
  • Experience in Family Development/support/strengthening Program.
  • Require critical thinking, time-management skills; interpersonal and communication skills; good physical condition; flexible scheduling.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Fieldwork activities:

  • Conduct house-to-house visits to select needy families 
  • Conduct regular home visits to selected families (identification of needs, counseling, information and referral) 
  • Conduct assessment visits/evaluation visits with the Program Officer.  
  • Participate in various internal and external meeting, monitoring sessions and training refreshers 
  • Refer families to the adequate services and follow up the referral
  • Facilitate group discussions with parents and children
  • To identify and meet new service providers and do follow up visits with known service providers in coordination with the organization.
  • Can help families identify needs & help them gain access to outside resources. 
  • Support family to navigating the outside resourcing system. 
  • Speaks on behalf of family when others will not listen or when they are unable to do so. 
  • Helps to family member express their needs, clarify their problems, explore resolution strategies, and applies intervention strategies to develop and expand the capacities to deal with their problems more effectively.
  • Evaluates interventions, program outcomes & disseminates knowledge and seeks to enhance the effectiveness of program. 
  • Participates as part of an organization seeking to improve some aspect of community service provision. 
  • Involved in gathering groups of people together for a variety of purposes including family development, self advocacy.
  • Particularly concerned for those who are vulnerable or are unable to speak up for themselves. Advocacy can occur on the local level. 
  • Case management is especially important for complex situations and for those who are homeless or elderly, have chronic physical or mental health issues, are disabled, victims of domestic or other violent crimes, or are vulnerable children.

  • Involve to provide assistance and advocacy to improve social and psychological functioning of children and their families 
  • Attempt to maximize academic functioning of children as well as improving the family’s overall well-being. 
  • These services include advising family, providing counseling, making referrals to other services, case management interventions. 

Coordination activities:

  • Coordinate and visit local government, non-government and private service providers  to obtain information on existing services, 
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to communicate about new services identified in the areas or to facilitate more formal referrals.

Monitoring, reporting and documentation activities: 

  • Update family files on a daily basis
  • Prepare case studies with the support of the supervisor
  • Update all records as per the need of program
  • Provide information on the activities, reporting according to the tools used in FDP as requested by the supervisor for the preparation of the reports
  • Undertake any other duties delegated by Organization.
