DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION / REQUIREMENTS:

Social Entrepreneurs Women Alliance Nepal (SEWA Nepal) is a non-profit, network and national level organization of social entrepreneurs dedicated to improving sustainable livelihood of women, smallholder farmers, and backward community based on agriculture and livestock enterprises by strengthening of technical, governance, financial management and organizational of social entrepreneurs. SEWA Nepal is an apex body formed by more than 267 Social Entrepreneurs Women Cooperatives (SEWCs) of 35 districts in Nepal. The main objectives of SEWA Nepal are to advocacy for increasing participation of social entrepreneurs in policy making in all level governments (local, province and federal); to increase access to education, health, nutrition, insurance, input supply, market, and access to finance through the women empowerment, social capital development, social transformation and awareness raising; and to facilitate producers quality production, processing, and marketing of Agri-Livestock products. 

SEWA Nepal is seeking a dynamic Managing Director for overseeing the administration, financial management, organizational operation, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. Managing Director is also responsible for advocacy, fund raising, marketing, capacity building of primary organizations, and agri-business operation. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors of the organization. The detailed roles and responsibilities of Managing Director are as follows:  

Major Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead overall leadership, organization management, financial management, administration, and strategic direction of the organization’s operation and program management.
  • Develop project planning, designing, program and effective implementation.
  • Prepare annual plan of budget and program and leads for implementation.
  • Coordinate and closely work with women organization, governments (local, provinces and federal), private sector, financial institutions, other professionals, civil societies, and private organization for B2B and B2S.
  • Develop fundraising plans and seek funds from donor agencies and other financial institutions for the operation of business. 
  • Closely work with board of directors to seek their active involvement in policy decisions, advocacy, networking, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility and fulfill the organization mission.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilization those relationships to strategically enhance organization mission.
  • Engage in fundraising and collecting other revenues.
  • Develop and implement policies, guidelines and procedures regarding financial management, administration, and human resource mobilization.
  • Oversees and reports on the organization’s progress and results for Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for periodic reviews and forecast budget with operation and program management of the organization.
  • Design training curriculum, develop training resource materials, and training manual related to cooperative management, governance, financial management, polices and guidelines.
  • Conduct training, workshop, and seminar in relation to institutional and organizational development.
  • Recruit train, coach, guide, supervise, monitor, and conduct performance evaluation of the staff.
  • Ensure project and donor finance related compliance.
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and day-to-day operation of the organization. 
  • Identify appropriate resource person, prepare TOR, and contract related activities. 
  • Conduct periodic review meeting with Board of Director and staffs.
  • Conduct frequent field visit of implemented activities, training, and events.
  • Coordinate with national and international donor agencies, civil societies, organization, and governments for mobilizing resources, services, and other facilities.
  • Prepare work plan of project and staffs.
  • Ensure quality of implemented activities. 
  • Prepare and share financial and physical progress to donors as per agreed format.

Educational Qualification and Experience:

Minimum Requirement:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Project planning, Organizational Management, Business Management, Social Sciences, Rural Development Studies, Natural Resource Management, and Agriculture or a related field is required, plus five (5) years of experience including three (3) years in a leadership position in non-profit organizations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • A Master’s Degree or equivalent in Organizational Management, Business Management, Rural Development Studies, Social Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, or a related field is required, plus 5 years of relevant experience including management position in non-profit organization. 

Most Critical Proficiencies:

  • Knowledge of and experience with or within community organizations
  • Have an interest in livestock agriculture and community development
  • Good understanding of and sensitivity for poverty, social and ethnic issues
  • Proficient in English and Nepali, both spoken and written
  • Excellent leadership qualities and communication Skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively establish good relationship with donors, other organizations and community 
  • Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the fund community. 
  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and governments
  • Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic mail software (Microsoft preferred).
