Organization and Project Overview  

Street Child sees a world where all children are safe, in school and learning. We specialise in supporting children and communities in low-resource environments and emergencies: recognising that the complex, compounded challenges that affect them require innovative, integrated interventions. Our interventions are informed by robust, rigorous evidence and results-oriented, optimised to create maximum impact for children at minimum cost. Since 2008, we have assisted over 250 000 children across 14 fragile, conflict and crisis affected counties across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Street Child has a strong, sustained commitment to localisation and works in partnership with 80+ local level actors and organisations, underscored by close consultation and collaboration with local communities.

Street Child is leading the South Asian Assessment Alliance: Communication and Collaborating for Change, a cross-country learning assessment program being implemented in Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Afghanistan funded by Global Partnership of Education. 

Currently in Year Zero, Street Child is looking for motivated individuals with an efficacy of desk-based research to conduct landscape analysis of learning assessments in the region. 

This is a three-month assignment to begin from August to January 2021. A long-term contract is dependent on Year Zero being successful. If successful, this will be a three-year long project. 

Position: Lead Research Intern

Reports to: Strategy and Growth Manager

Duty Station: Kathmandu

Working Hours: 20 hours a week

Duties and Responsibilities 

Under the direct supervision of the Strategy and Growth Manager, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks: 

  • Conduct desk-based research in learning assessments in the region;   
  • Landscape analysis of education interventions and assessments in the region;
  • Compiling best practices, lessons learnt, experiences and stories on key thematic area;
  • Provide support to the Street Child Programmes unit where applicable.
  • Conduct meetings/interviews with concerned education related stakeholders; prepare notes and reports

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or Graduate Diploma in Research, Education, Statistics, or another related field. Candidates with research-based master's degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in a conducting learning assessment, educationrelated researches, citizen-led assessments or other similar research projects.
  • Previous successful involvement with, and good knowledge of CBOs, I/NGOs and civil society in education sector is desired.
