Akasha Academy is currently looking for a Land Manager as supervisor for the development of the Headquarters site in Suntakhan, Gokarneshwor Municipality.

The establishment of Akasha Academy in Nepal follows the vision of Tulku Khyungdor Rinpoche to offer a place for integrated education, rooted in the universal wisdom of original Buddhism. On that foundation, the main areas of work include education, health and environmental protection. A special focus is set on the empowerment of girls and women.

The Akasha Academy NGO is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered in Nepal. The NGO's constitutional goal is to contribute to a positive and sustainable development through environmental protection, health promotion, education, and respect for human rights. The Akasha Academy NGO has been successfully carrying out projects since its foundation in 2012.

Akasha Academy is working closely together with its German sister organization Long Yang e.V.

Development of Akasha Academy Headquarters

The Headquarters of Akasha Academy is located at the border of Shivapuri National Park in Suntakhan, Gokarneshwor Municipality. It is envisioned to serve as a flagship project for sustainable land use, planning, architecture and infrastructure.

The master planning of the land with sustainable architecture and infrastructure is currently in the making. This includes a detailed mapping of the area, landscape gardening as well as identifying possible building sites. In the first phase, also land stabilization measures of landslide endangered areas of the site are among the main tasks.

At the same time, an integrated organic farming scheme is to be developed that will ensure self-sufficiency for the residents and students at the site.

 

Role of the position

The role of the Land Manager will focus mainly on the coordination of activities as well as the supervision of local staff related to the development of the site. This will include activities in the fields of sustainable land use and farming, environmental restoration as well as the construction of sustainable infrastructure.  

For the position, daily presence at the training center in Suntakhan (Gokarneshwor) will be required. The ideal candidate would be ready to live on site during the working week.  

 

Contract period

Initially 1 year, with the possibility of extension; long-term engagement envisioned

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Coordination of various activities on the site and communication with different working partners of Akasha Academy
  • Supervision of developing an organic farming scheme for Akasha Academy site
  • Supervision of local staff in sustainable land use
  • monitor and report on project developments
  • Monitoring of expenditures, financial reports, and other relevant documentation
  • be an interface towards the local authorities and partnering organizations
  • contribute to the selection of additional staff for Akasha Academy, as per necessity

 

Required skills and experience:

You should have

  • successfully completed at least Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Forestry, Agriculture, Landscape Architecture/Gardening, Environmental Sciences, or another relevant field
  • proven work experience in at least one of the following areas: sustainable land use, environmental protection, rural development
  • excellent communication skills towards staff and other team members, as well as stakeholders from partnering organizations and supporting authorities,
  • excellent coordination
  • solid command of Nepali and English languages, both written and verbal,
  • the ability to work within a team of different social and cultural backgrounds,
  • the capability to manage schedules of multiple topics and to manage unexpected situations calmly and in a flexible way,
  • reliability and loyalty,
  • the aspiration to contribute to a positive change in your surrounding
  • a strong identification and commitment towards the overall project aim and the work of Akasha Academy NGO,
  • solid command of MS Office package (especially Powerpoint, Word, Excel)

Ideally, you have

  • experience in project management, reporting and budgeting,
