Trainer for Making Local Products out of Waste

Introduction

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is a non-profit international development organisation with headquarters in the Netherlands and programs in 36 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. SNV contributes through strengthening the capacity of local organizations within three main sectors: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Agriculture; and Renewable Energy.

Under the WASH Sector, SNV Nepal is currently implementing its Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene for All (SSH4A) program in 5 districts of the terai (Bara, Saptari, Siraha, Mahotari, Dhanusa). The current focus of the program is to support rural municipalities on progress towards total sanitation. Total sanitation consists of a range of indicators including improving solid waste management at the household level.

A key challenge of solid waste management at the household level is the production of wrappers, small plastics, and other such materials which cannot be composted or recycled. The only option remains to bury them in a pit which takes up precious space or burn them which causes air pollution. Meanwhile, there have been various initiatives in Nepal to develop locally used products (baskets, bags etc) out of such waste which are beneficial to the community.

Scope of Work

SNV is seeking a service provider (organisation or individual) to conduct training(s) for people living in rural areas of the five SSH4A target districts on application of household waste materials to develop locally used products. The products should have demonstrated value (for household or community use or for selling). The trainings will be held in the target districts or at a location convenient for the participants.

SNV will make all required arrangements for the training events. SNV rules will apply for travel and accommodation expenses for the trainer and participants.

Timeframe for implementation

The time frame of the assignment is from 01 August 2019 – 15 September 2019 during which 1 – 4 trainings will be conducted. The number and timing of trainings will be finalised in mutual discussion with the short-listed service provider based on requirements of the training (e.g. duration of training, number of participants etc.) and program needs.

Application

Interested service provider should provide the following:

  • Capacity statement of the service provider to deliver above scope of work including proposed HR
  • Proposed training session plan, duration of training, and maximum number of participants
  • Input waste materials for the training
  • Product outputs from the training
  • Two references of trainings already given
  • Training fee for implementing one training as per proposed session plan
  • Identification of base station from where travel will be needed to site of training
  • VAT registration

Submission of application with rate to be sent to email nepal@snv.org by 31 July 2019, with subject line as “Trainer for Making Local Products out of Waste”.
