Documentary movie production for Fair Trade Group Nepal Sustainable Livelihood for Earthquake Affected Families in Nepal project

Background:

Fair Trade Group (FTG) Nepal in partnership with Oxfam Nepal has been implementing “Sustainable Livelihoods Support for the Earthquake Affected Families in Nepal” since 2016 in five earthquake-affected districts namely Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kathmandu. The aim of the project is to improve livelihoods and economic opportunities for earthquake affected men and women. The objective of the project is to support the earthquake affected men and women to generate sustainable income through fair trade, improve the market access of the Fair Trade Group Nepal's Member Organization as well as producers and promote fair trade principles and practices in private and public sector actor. The project's targeted direct beneficiaries are 4500 earthquake affected families and out of them 60% are women.

The project contributes to bring a positive change in the lives of the target earthquake affected men and women through improved income opportunities for sustainable livelihood. The project will combine Gender Enterprise Market approach of Oxfam and Fair Trade principle to create an enabling environment for women and men to participate in the economic activities. The projects provides opportunities for women to participate in and benefit from the 10 selected products, by identifying and addressing the existing practices and structures that exclude and discriminate against women for their economic leadership.

The specific changes at the end of the project are: 

  • Increased income of producers
  • Increased women’s income and control over the income
  • Increased access to productive assets of producers
  • Increased access of women to business management skill and production 
  • Increased sales and market linkage of  FTGN member organizations 
  • Establishment of Fair Trade Business Development Service Centre and Fair Trade Market Outlet (FTMO)
  • Increased support for Fair Trade principles and practices from public and private sector 

Objective:

To capture project achievements and short comings along with project contribution to improving the livelihood of target beneficiaries in many ways, FTG Nepal wants to produce a documentary movie from the perspective of the benefitted earthquake affected families, Member Organizations, project partners and relevant stakeholders. 

Documentary will focus on the targeted beneficiaries and FTG Nepal member organizations covering the modality of intervention and its impact to scale to be shared with wider audience. 

Scope of work and technical requirements:

The documentary should be beneficiaries driven, motivational, told mainly from the perspective of earthquake affected families, with interviews and inputs from local communities, government and non-government stakeholders engaged in the project, Member Organizations, Oxfam and FTG Nepal.  

Documentary should be in Nepali (some section can include English) with English subtitles, at good market quality standards. The total running time of the documentary is to be 5 minutes. 

The entire film production i.e. writing, filming, editing, voicing/narration etc. should be done by the contractor. The entire development and production process will be closely monitored by FTG Nepal office providing continuous review, comments and inputs support when needed.

All the districts must be covered. However, Municipalities can be decided mutually based on the situation and requirement.

Please note that you need to consider that all the areas will be covered while developing your work plan.    

Expected Timeline:

  1. Contractor shall commence the work as soon as possible, immediately upon signing of the contract 
  2. A detailed timeline along with the work plan (shooting schedule) and draft outline needs to be submitted within 25 days after signing of the contract in consultation with FTG Nepal project team
  3. First draft of the documentary should be provided to the FTG Nepal project team 
  4. Final documentary as well as the project files, should be delivered to FTG Nepal no later than February 25th 2019

Deliverable and payment distribution:

  1. Payments of total budget will be processed upon delivery of the following product along with the invoice:
  2. Detailed timeline, work plan (shooting schedule) and draft outline (30%)
  3. Draft documentary (40%)
  4. Final documentary along with project files (30%) 

Qualifications 

  1. Minimum of three years of experience in the area of documentary production, directing and editing 
  2. Access of high quality filming, light, sound and editing equipment 
  3. Ability to operate under strict time limits and apply high production and technical standards for the purpose of maintaining high level of professionalism 
  4. Ability to communicate and conduct interviews in Nepali and English
  5. Track record of successful materials filmed in the region and /or on similar topics would be an asset

  3. Detailed list of technical information of the equipment intended for use, including camera, light, sound, editing software etc.
  4. Curriculum Vitae of the team and functional responsibilities of the key people to be engaged in the production of the documentary 
  5. Detailed filming plan and timeline for all phases in pre-production, production and post-production
  6. A clear total cost of the final product with detailed breakdown of estimated costs, including estimated days of shooting, production team, days of editing, travel costs etc.
  7. Copy of tax clearance certificate 
  8. Copy of firm/organization registration certificate and VAT/PAN registration
