Call for Applications
DAI seeks professional freelance English-Nepali simultaneous interpreters for the USAID Paani Program for its English-Nepali Simultaneous Interpreter Roster (Interpreter). The interpreters will facilitate communication between parties who speak English or Nepali. They do this by interpreting, translating and re-communicating both verbal and written messages from one language into another. This includes both spoken and written language. Qualified applicants will be listed in USAID Paani Program Simultaneous Interpreter Roster and will perform the interpretation service based on assignment.

Detail Scope of Work
Position: Simultaneous Interpreter

Location: Kathmandu and other project areas in Karnali, Mahakali and Rapti
Background:
The Paani Program—also known in Nepali as the “USAID Water Project”, यà¥à¤à¤¸à¤à¤¡à¤ªà¤¾à¤¨à¥€à¤ªà¤°à¤¿à¤¯à¥‹à¤œà¤¨à¤¾—is a 5 year, $25 million USAID-funded Project in Nepal. Water is the single most important natural resource underpinning Nepal’s economy and livelihoods. The sustainable management of water resources in Nepal depends on addressing climate change and protecting healthy, biodiverse ecosystems. Paani aims to enhance Nepal’s ability to manage water resources for multiple uses and users through climate change adaptation and the conservation of freshwater biodiversity. Paani employs an integrated, whole-of-basin approach with activities under four “intermediate result” (IR) areas at the watershed, river basin, and national scales, to reduce threats to freshwater biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of targeted human and ecological communities in the Karnali, Mahakali, and Rapti river basins through improved water management.
Responsibilities:
The Simultaneous Interpreter will provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation services, English – Nepali / Nepali - English for Paani Program events such as meeting, conference, workshop, roundtable and other Paani related activities with high standard of quality of interpretation. Most of the interpretation work will be related with Paani Program technical events which is related but not limited to environment, natural resources, freshwater biodiversity, climate change adaptation and other relevant topics, the interpreter must have experience and understand majority of technical terms and words to ensure the quality of interpretation. The interpreter must follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information. Detail scope of work will be given based on the assignment.
Qualifications:
- High School graduate with a certificate/diploma in English or other related fields is required. A Bachelor’s degree in English literature or equivalent is preferable
- At least 3 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the field simultaneous interpretationwith an international organization is required.
- Fluent in English and Nepali, oral and written, is required.
- An understanding of technical terms related to environment, natural resources, freshwater biodiversity, climate change adaptation and other relevant topics
- Willing to travel to the remote areas (Karnali, Rapti, and Mahakali)
Note:
- Women and people from marginalized communities are highly encouraged to apply.
- Interpreters who have provided simultaneous interpretation service to Paani Program in the past are still required to apply.
